I'm fully in favor to Puerto Ricans being able to decide autonomously what they prefer. I also don't assume Puerto Rico would be a guaranteed Democratic Party vote.

They've held regular referendums on statehood (most recently in 2024) and consistently indicated they prefer statehood.

Not a guarantee of current/future status by any means, but seems more likely than not that they'd still prefer to be recognized as a state.

This is not necessarily as consequential as the many illegal and immoral actions the president has taken, but it goes directly to the heart of his character and what a deeply awful human being he is. Just a bully who delights in eliciting misery.
