Listened to this today. Really interesting.

It never occurred to me that the Victorian bustle might be an imitation of the black female figure.

Hope TRIP ups its game in 2025, surprisingly didn't make it into my top 5 of 2024 (but 3 other political pods did - including No. 1)

Quacks and conspiracy theorists thrived in those febrile days.

Dr. Pierre Cory complained that, " They don't provide any evidence that it [Ivormectin] doesn't work"; if every drug is going to be permitted until it can be proved it doesn't work healthcare will be in a dangerous place.

His fourth goal is the study of the 'more primitive human races and their subdivision'

However, Hrdlička's views are horrifying today. A couple of quotes demonstrates his mind set.

One about his view that the goal of Physical Anthropology should be the study of the normal white man.

At present, according to @fullfact.bsky.social's metrics the government are doing well on pledges (5 met, 12 on target Vs 3 disputed or unclear and 3 off target).

The Selzer poll was spectacularly out. Not only did the Democrats lose but by a wide margin.

Selzer's reported methodology seemed as sound as anyone so it would be interesting to find out what happened.

But @philmoorhouse.bsky.social goes the extra mile and checked out a channel most likely to appeal to the Reform and right wing Tory voters - GB News.

Although GB News report Labour delivering more deportations than in 2023 the viewers refuse to believe it - because, Phil says, they don't want to.

Author, columnist and podcaster @misszing.bsky.social I think really nails the problems with X (it's largely become unusable) and notes, "Bluesky is a much better user experience, eventually that is what is going to draw people in."

An interview with @jimalkhalili.bsky.social (presenter of R4's Life Scientific) highlights the problems with X and how much more pleasant Bluesky is ("very much like the old Twitter")
November 19, 2024 at 2:11 AM
At that time Bluesky's userbase was circa 17M (oh the old days) and Musk claimed X had 600M but independent analysts dispute this figure and the numbers have been falling since the US election

I missed the beginning of @adamfleming.bsky.social's introduction where he refers to the @brunelsbridge.bsky.social leaving Twitter because of a rise in inappropriate content and falling meaningful engagement.
Adam then gives an express intro to Bluesky.

A point I haven't heard other commentators make is that while Badenoch's favourability score is low there are a lot of Don't knows that she could potentially win over (unlike Starmer or Farage)

Phil suggests that when Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak took over the public were still willing to give the Conservatives a chance.
November 18, 2024 at 12:17 AM
Moorhouse points out that while Badenoch's personal favourability ratings are below that of either Johnson or Sunak those 2 both benefited from taking over from particularly unsuccessful/unpopular leaders (May and Truss). Kemi suffers from being the leader of a particularly unpopular party now.

Good APIs wasn't obvious to me but it enables researchers to investigate the data, to look for example bias.

Here is a graph of Trump, Biden and Haris on changes in communication ability, Biden's has declined, especially recently but so has Trump (and from a lower base). N.B. cognition not assessed includes things like: memory function, executive control the speed of information processing.
