the anode is of course Not Made From US Pennies. that would be illegal! these are zinc discs with holes in them.

it also increased the expected voltage! neat!
November 21, 2025 at 2:46 AM
this increased the short current to a whopping ~1.2mA short current! and, it eliminated the current drop upon shorting. in fact, the if left shorted for an extended period, the voltage and current rise temporarily, as if the gradient layer is being disturbed by the current flow itself. maybe?

my initial battery produced the expected ~.75v but the current was limited to 0.20mA. bad! i’ve read about gradient cells before, so i added a layer of prussian blue i had lying around from some dried up cyanotype stain. it sits at the bottom of the cell near the cathode.
November 21, 2025 at 2:27 AM
there are many references online about prussian blue analogues being used as cathode materials in sodium batteries. this activated several brain worms, so i started with a simple zinc-air battery to test my Thoughts

i’ve been thinking about batteries again,

six diodes to rectify the output of the very small 3 phase (!) generator, an unlabeled chip that leads to the power button, and some sundry components on the back to smooth and regulate the rectified output. cannot determine Ni-MH button cell manufacturer, but 3 cells = about 3.6v

unfortunately, since the battery is already baked in, i will be breaking my streak of not using things until i’ve taken them apart
