Quarterman giving us the dirt from the latest CES where Mario, explained to the audience that 16-bit was not the wave of the future and the NES was powerful enough. Really showcasing Nintendo's SNES strategy of not cannibalizing their NES sales too early giving Genesis all it needed to get going!

Had no idea what this game was about but knew about the TTRPG so checked it out. Rented it and went out and bought it as soon as I could save up the money for it. Just a fantastic cyberpunk RPG at a time when the genre was still flying under the radar.

Running over your kids NES when they wouldn't shut the damn thing off was a classic 80s parenting move. Good on Carolee here for feeling the guilt and fessing up to Nintendo Power after MacGyver'ing her poor kids NES back to working order. 👍

Nintendo's story began in 1889 making traditional Hanafuda playing cards. So of course Nintendo had to flex in their 1989 Issue of Nintendo Power, taking us on their wild 100-year journey from card makers to video game superstars.

EGM doing its best to round out it's 16-bit coverage with some SNES hype. On paper it'll be several times more powerful than the Genesis but it won't be released for another two years, giving Sega time to capture most of the 16-bit market in North America.

EGM covers the TurboGrafx-16 just prior to its release at the end of August 1989. While the console didn't have the name recognition of Sega's arcade hits, the magazine was pretty hype for the launch lineup and the incoming CD-ROM tech!

A planet hopping, item based Metroidvania with a good dose of humour and creative action platforming. I'll never forget getting the mainframe of the first level and then jumping into the computer world TRON style. Total fun!

This wasn't the first time Sega brought superior hardware up against Nintendo and Mega Drive was a distant third place in the Japanese market. With no guarantees of success, Sega launches a Hail Mary into the NA market and EGM gets us hype for 16-bit!
