Hi friends. I know AI art can be fun to tinker around with, but when it intentionally mimics a well known style (like the Studio Ghibli one that’s popular right now), that’s not okay. They trained the models by using existing artwork without permission. In other words, it’s theft.

Just say no.

Looks like there might be an ongoing cyberattack against Visa and Mastercard. People locally are reporting that multiple stores card readers are down, and readers at Costcos around the country are down. Anyone else seeing or hearing anything?

Cutting 50% of the Department of Education, the stock market in free fall because the Bozo in Chief is treating tariffs like they’re his personal playthings, shilling Teslas (illegally) at the White House, and the continued idiotic saber rattling at *checks notes* CANADA.

I just want to give a shout out to all the comic book pros I’ve gotten to know over the years. You are awesome and make our lives better with your creativity. I’m sure you hear it a lot, but I wanted you to hear it one more time. Seriously, thank you! 🙏

I miss the days when I woke up and an infuriating news headline wasn’t waiting for me.

/1 Watching the Grammys a day later. My observations:
1. Billie Eilish and Finneas’ parents should be proud of how well their kids get along.
2. Sabrina Carpenter crushed her performance! Genuinely funny and entertaining.

Just finished Civil War. I’m not sure what to think of it, particularly considering, ya know… *gestures broadly to the world*

I can see what Garland is going for, making it a “the horrors of war” but on our own turf instead of some faraway land. Still, I am not sure I actually LIKED the movie… /1

I would like to see Violet Grohl be the singer for Nirvana from now on. Wow!!!!

Just finished watching Saturday Night (the movie). Wow, I really enjoyed that. The first half had a frenetic energy about it that really captured how it must’ve felt in the moment. /1

Bowling with Corpses is classic @mikemignola.bsky.social through and through, from the little touches (like the musical notes denoting whistling) to the way each short story reads like a fable that’s completely new, but still somehow reads like it’s familiar. Each story is unique & fun. A must buy.

Just finished the season/series finale of Skeleton Crew. It was fine, but it sure felt like it needed another 10-15 minutes to wrap things up. If you watch it, you’ll know what I mean. The series definitely started a lot stronger than it finished, but I would still give it a solid B to B+ overall.

My pal Ananya wrote a killer essay that I encourage you to read. It’s about Patti Smith, the anxiety around the question “what is it that you do here,” and transcending labels and categories.

Hot take: the new MacBook commercial with the weight lifter is one of the dumbest concepts I’ve ever seen in an advertisement. Kind of sad, coming from Apple.

“We’re not getting airport sushi!” - random mom at the Denver airport to her two young kids who were begging for sushi

When the kids asked “why,” she said, “because I don’t want you throwing up on the airplane.”

Thank you for the laugh, random mom.

Flute Guy won The Video Game Awards yet again this year.

Also glad Astro Bot won Game of the Year, and Swen’s speech before the award was perfect.

Dune: Prophecy - why do shows like this have to be all
“10,000 years before the stuff you know and love” and yet the technology looks exactly the same as the stuff we know and love?

Knights of the Old Republic, which I adore, had the same problem.

Otherwise, it was an okay series premiere.

Heads up, gamer friends - some folks are reporting on the PS5 subreddit that their accounts were compromised over the weekend, with hundreds to thousands of dollars being stolen. What's more disturbing is that the attackers were able to disable two-factor authentication in many of the cases.
