Good morning.

If you live in Alberta, you should know that today your government will invoke the notwithstanding clause to wage war against transgender Albertans.

Not because transgender persons are harmful, but because the UCP is distracting you from their mountain of failures.

The authoritarian UCP rammed this undemocratic bill though at 2:00am after premier Smith fled the country. Not even a joke, but this government sure is. Fuck the UCP.

Let's be clear about what happened today.

Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,

denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,

and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.
The UCP government has invoked time allocation and on a bill removing Albertans' Charter rights.

And they're using the notwithstanding clause to do it.

Here's why that is a dangerous precedent. And why real conservatives need to stand up against it.

I'm the next few days, it would be a mistake to:
❌️ limit the resistance to the teachers' demands or saving public education
❌️ make labour/workers/unions the only faces of opposition

The UCP's pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause is much broader than one strike or one set of rights.
The days ahead will be crucial.

Not just in terms of public opinion, but in terms of political culture.

Champions of human rights and the constitution must not only outnumber the premier's supporters.

They must persuade Albertans that these positions are dominant, piercing the populist bubble.

Having burned $3B+ AB taxpayer dollars on the aborted Keystone pipeline & tank car sh*t, the UCP is pursuing additional pipeline opportunities. How many more of our taxpayer dollars need to go up in smoke while our health, education & social service systems all suffer under these ignorant rubes?
Alberta’s latest pipeline push dredges up ghosts of projects past
Few are as acquainted with Canada’s graveyard of defunct oil pipelines as Alex Pourbaix, a former executive at the company behind the Keystone XL and Energy East proposals.

In Alberta, having an eligible mental health disorder (like depression) qualifies you for free COVID-19 vaccine. There must be at least 2 million Albertans chronically depressed by the actions of this ridiculous, bumbling and pissy government. That sounds like free shots for most of us.

Danielle Smith's justification for charging Albertans for vaccines & requiring pre-orders, is that it's saving $$ due to less waste. But is it really?

No. The answer is no. Hospitalization is expensive. We'll have more sick & dead people, AND it'll cost more. Fiscal conservatives, my ass 🤬.

The Government of Alberta has referred to COVID vaccines as “an expensive intervention,” to justify a vaccine policy based on pre-ordering, radically reducing community access and charging most Albertans to receive the vaccine. Here are the facts. www.albertadoctors.org/news/publica...

🚨 This is inexplicable news to share. If in Alberta and you want flu and covid shots for NEXT year (2026-2027), you have only until December 15 of THIS year to order them.

This is not incompetence. It’s a deliberate choice to prevent as many people ..

The 14M dollars Smith has committed to a pipeline going nowhere would cover the entire cost of COVID vaccines.
Smith likes to day "saving taxpayer dollars" to justify her decision yet she never hesitate to spend huge amounts on pet projects: multiple panels, Dynalife fiasco, bloated govt, etc.

Thread. But read these words. This is on the UCP.

patients "are suffering and dying"

Could be a loved one, could be you. For no other reason except ideology. Also partly due to COVID restrictions - actions taken to save lives and keep our health care workers from being even more overwhelmed.
As things get worse, and as pts are suffering and dying, there will be no ability for our system to work in a coordinated fashion to try to mitigate severe overcrowding...

There is ABSOLUTELY NO operational control of our entire HC system anymore...

Govt broke it...
