Happy May Day eve from empty late-afternoon office!

What am I doing working late before holidays? Well, plating a few dozen Pythium samples from lettuce roots collected on Monday. @marikara.bsky.social shows a great example of possible symptoms: small roots and slow growth despite green color. 😊

The forest pathology theme continued this week as I joined @eterhone.bsky.social and other @luke.fi forest pathologists for an inspection of a forest regeneration site. Learning about forestry, forest pests and pathogens, and more ❤️ #ClimateAdapation #HorizonEurope #Lakkakääpä @mip4adapt.bsky.social

Two weeks ago we had a wonderful consortium meeting of #Precilience project in Tartu, Estonia. It was great as ever, insipiring people and disucssions, learning a lot of new facts and ideas. This is definitely the best part of my role as project coordinator! 🥰🤯🤓

Impressive demonstrations of Estonian silvicultural research, forest pests and pathogens, and some pieces of most beautiful nature!

With @eterhone.bsky.social @markusmelin.bsky.social and many others from @luke.fi, EMÜ, SLU, NIBIO, TU Dresden, SMHI etc. etc.

Wonderful consortium meeting of #Precilience in Tartto, Estonia! Big thanks to the organizers at Estonian University of Life Sciences! We had intensive discussions and workshops on project progress and plans, and a lot of socializing of course. Now heading to the field excursion!

Last week I had the pleasure to visit NIBIO plant pathologists at Ås to collaborate on InNoBaHort project analysing and modelling ascospore release data of European canker / Neonectria ditissima. Thanks to Dalphy O. C. Harteveld and others. A productive week in a beautiful environment!

All kind of fancy structures built by my Pythium, but what on earth is growing out of those plated dill roots? Fairy rings? 😄🍄

Nice field trip, or rather a road trip, to collect some samples. Beautiful infections, although not so great for the grower... It's always a struggle: are you siding with the disease or with the plants / producer :D

Simulation modelling of forest dynamics and disturbances - sounds interesting?

Join our #Precilience project as postdoc with Dominik Thom at Dresden University of Technology!

Two year position, E 13 TV-L.

Following that, I moved to my current position as a research scientist on Horticultural #plantpathology at the Natural Resources Institute Finlad @lukefi.bsky.social in Jokioinen, SW-Finland. Here I have still continued some cereal pathology, but also learned about carrots, strawberries and more.

We also studied infection efficiency of the pathogen doi.org/10.1111/ppa.... observing 4% rate in our conditions and big variability in latent period.

Further, we measured dispersal of the pathogen in field conditions, using both the AIA method and strain specific pcr. doi.org/10.1094/PHYT...

My phd was @ethzurich.bsky.social on epidemiology of septoria tritici blotch caused by #zymoseptoria tritici.

We studied wheat host resistance, differentiating damage and pathogen reproduction doi.org/10.1094/PHYT... Interesting new findings were possible thanks to automated image analysis (AIA).

While I am plant disease epidemiologist, I'm also leading a €10M Horizon project precilience.eu that demonstrates climate resilience solutions in agriculture and forestry. Read more about the project in the website and register for our webinar on 4th December: us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
