@pjwils.bsky.social
PhD candidate in NT & Christian Origins (migration & Acts) at the University of Edinburgh § coordinating refugee and asylum seeker support projects with the Naz § usual caveats: views are my own, etc.
As it appears in the SBL/AAR program book, my academic affiliation is now, apparently, the 'University *or* Edinburgh'; I promise you this wasn't my fault. I thought I had flagged this before the publication of the book, but looks like my SBL '25 will be forever associated with a typo.

The most cliché picture that someone named Paul can take here, but it had to be done.

Not what I'd hang in my living room, but each to their own.

I can't stand this thing that ProQuest Ebook Central have integrated into their platform.

If nothing else, my training in biblical studies has equipped me to recognise a chiasmus in Josh Ritter’s new album.

In addition to the racing, I love the colours in the valley. Both the landscape and the little things, like the heather and pine, and the fireweed going to seed. 2/

Every year I have the opportunity to be the official photographer for the Tom Robb Memorial Trail Race in Carron Valley. It’s an amazing event that raises funds for Alzheimer Scotland and Ochils Mountain Rescue. It's always a fun, life-affirming day out and it's a privilege to take part. 1/

I see that @sblsite.bsky.social annual meeting's provisional schedule is up (the new website looks great). If you're interested in Acts + migration/borders, I'm presenting two papers. Details in the screencap; looking forward to the feedback & discussion. See you all in Boston! #SBLAAR

It should've been included in the issue on migration; due to a mix-up, it wasn't included. Happy to report my extended review of @dglennbutner.bsky.social's fantastic *Jesus the Refugee* has been published in the most recent vol. of the Scottish Episcopal Institute Journal: sei.scot/resources/se...

The unnerving glare of disapproval. He probably saw my last draft.

Also, don't judge me about the open tabs.

Feline invasion of my workspace. I'm catsitting and Señor Sophie is dropping not-so-subtle hints that he hates me.

I've only been through London in the past decade as a transit point to somewhere else, so it was nice to be a tourist in the city and have the time to to catch up with good friends.

For a conference using spatial theory as a way to investigate Roman power, KCL was a fitting location, given its odd mix of Victorian, Georgian, and Brutalist architectures, along with faux Roman arches. The chapel, enclosed in one of the more dull/functional wings of the university, is beautiful.

Aside from spending the night in St Pancras after missing my sleeper to Glasgow, I had a great time in London presenting at the 'Space and Oppression in the Roman World' conference at KCL. Always valuable to receive feedback and a different set of questions from scholars in Classics and Patristics.

I always look forward to American Week at Lidl because it's a beautiful celebration of my culture.

Enjoyed helping to organise our Postgraduate Colloquium at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh. A fantastic turnout and a real showcase of the breadth and quality of research happening at New College.

Thoroughly enjoyed the @sgsah.bsky.social 'Scottish Universities Theology, Religion & Biblical Studies Postgraduate Workshop' on Wed, hosted by @trsglasgowuni.bsky.social. Papers were representative of the 'interdisciplinary' theme & helpful insights from experienced scholars on how to do it well.

Dr Williams' workshop on 1st-century Jewish inscriptions was everything you'd want it to be—offering, as Margaret put it, an insight into the complex lives of individuals, when literary evidence the Diaspora gives us broad brush strokes.

Extra points if you recognise the inscription on the screen.

The end of an era as Prof Novenson delivered his final seminar at New College. Matt was my advisor when I started the Master's in back 2014 & later helped me turn scattered ideas into a coherent PhD proposal. He's one of the most erudite scholars I've known—as well as a great person. I'll miss him.

I'm looking forward to presenting at the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics 'Conflict and Peacebuilding' conference at the School of Divinity in Edinburgh. My paper is titled: 'Putting Boundaries in Their Place: Acts 17:26-31 and Peacebuilding toward a Borderless Kingdom.'
