Hello to New Followers from the Arlington Cemetery/Website purge story! Drop me a line to say hi!
If you need to restore your faith in Arlington and its people, I wrote this story last year about an Army general and the Tomb of the Unknown.

An Army general's final 'walk' at the Tomb of the Unknowns
William Zana, the only guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to reach the rank of general, took a final shift on his last day in the Army.

Its like asking 'anybody have a favorite beatles album?'
Finally driving my first EV and can’t be the only middle aged dad now *obsessed* with regenerative braking and getting as many miles as humanly possible.

OK, got distracted by Pope Movies (man, he HATES Nazis...) but came here to say:

Kemper Donovan is doing a 2-part Veteran's Day edition of his genre-owning Agatha Christie podcast, and so far its incredible.

Ep 1 is real vets in her life, ep 2 will be a 'fun' top 10 vets in her books. 1/

This is fun but even in the 'examples' in this story, they're clearly not the same.

They're CLOSE. they are SIMILIAR. but they are, obviously with just a quick hard look, not the same.

proves nothing either way, just sort of sloppy

I had 3 Fugitive, Ferris and Blues in my "pope list" too. the, err, canon of Chicago movies for sure.

Here's my alternate 4

Running Scared
Adventures in Babysitting
Home Alone

maybe 16 Candles for Home Alone.

For Veteran's Day, soak in the brilliance of Corporal Tom Lehrer, who was A Made Guy in the E-4 Mafia with a Masters in Applied Mathematics from Harvard.
With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

In 2023, a team of Indiana National Guard soldiers waded into the largest riot in Kosovo since 2004.

As it unwound, US helicopters had to medevac over 90 UN Peacekeepers from a hasty LZ set up by one of the Guardsmen.

If you don't remember it, its because nobody covered it until this story.
In the most violent clash involving U.S. troops in Kosovo since 2004, eight Indiana National Guardsmen faced rioters who threw 56 grenades and injured 93 NATO troops.

STOP SAYING "BARI"

first, its a knee-jerk sexist-boy thing to use a woman's first name in references. Just for good practice, stop it.

but second, it implies "this is a silly child who can't possibly do any real damage" about a horrible, vicious, 'freq wrong never in doubt' terror-clown.
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

This is a fun story, i learned a lot about the Navy writing it.

come for the actual story, stay for the absolute bonkers comments how an Admiral is a) a super-sharp leader still on the cutting edge and b) wasting tax money and the sweat of his sailors for an ego-photo op.

Solar’s price drop is astonishing: panels are now 98% cheaper than when I first analyzed them in 2004.

Today, building a fence with solar can be cheaper than using wood.

SOOOO funny.

50yr mortgage is, essentially, renting for 10 years, which means anyone suddenly underwater or who just wanted/needed to move would OF COURSE walk away.

the only party that 'wins' is the builder who gets the money up front.

Hmm, "Pulte," where do I know that name?

I'd like to think this would turn things around or at least "help" but it feels 50-50 or worse that the Pentagon just says "fine, everybody not in uniform is fired and now it' a 4-year OCS."
