It's the gradual erosion and harm vs rapid erosion and harm tht ppl have a hard time with. But wht ppl miss about concluding the gradual harm is safer is that the direction is still the same. The gradual harm is not less harmful it's just not affecting as many ppl.

My mom bought her house as a single mom of two by herself when she was 31 (had to refinance twice since then but it's still standing and it is still hers) ... my sister and I are 36 & 28 and buying a house isn't even something remotely possible for either of us right now...

When I was an adolescent it was reasonable to believe that "mature for your age" or "developed early" were valid but as an adult, there has never been 1 time I came in contact with a child and didn't immediately know that I was talking to a child.
