It is crazy that there is no testing or licensing regime for these things, dozens of deaths later. A drug which had such serious mental side effects would have been withdrawn instantly

Really interesting reading here. I think we need to see this as part of a broader pattern with law increasingly being deployed to performative ends not just in relation to legal letters, but also the act of legislating and the claim of 'legality' or 'illegality' as an artefact of political debate.

Performative Litigation Letters

How certain lawyer letters are intended for news and social media consumption

Can we circle back to the part where the NY Times never disclosed that they have incriminating information on Donald Trump from sent by Epstein that's been sitting on their email servers for nearly a decade?
Stuff like this makes me wonder why there hasn't been any reporting about Trump having affairs during his presidencies

Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

I mean, the BBC/British govt are about to give him tens of millions of pounds not to be mad at them anymore. So again, what does any of this really do?
This Trump/Epstein stuff is so typical of a modern political "scandal," in that ... we know he did it. He knows he did it. Everyone knows he did it & everyone knows that everyone knows he did it. There is zero "did he do it?" involved here. The whole thing is about ... what, exactly?

I think his films are fine, but for women they're not exactly a great opportunity to work with material. Take a leaf out of Nicole Kidman's book and just dodge these boring projects once you are big enough to get to do that.

Guardian smirking in the subheader that Eve Libertine "hasn't mellowed with age" as if the world has got better since Crass came out. I'm glad she hasn't dampened her anger, there is a lot to be angry about. I'd be angry if I was in my 60s and still had to protest all this shithousery.

I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

I'm sorry but what the fuck were these poor people supposed to do? Go to the police and say "my son has bought a knife I think he's going to do something bad"?

And what would the police do?

Nothing. No crime had been committed at that point.

This is a filthy witch hunt.

Yes it's a really important detail this.
I'm not sure if others have noticed this, but interesting that one of the Prescott criticisms of the BBC is based on those of the 'History Reclaimed' group, which is also associated with the 'Restore Trust' group's attacks on & so far unsuccessful attempts to take control of the National Trust. 1/3

Sat in for this interview (as a tech) and was utterly fascinated by the conversation. The fact that we so often think of democracy/not-democracy as a binary is at the core of why we rarely see authoritarianism coming.

It's time to wise up. Thank you @srd.bsky.social for such a wise explanation.
