Back at the Ponds today and exciting news, we have cygnets!! Fairly sure they've been around a few days by now, so fluffy! ^•^

A pair of adult mute swans in a man-made lake, swimming towards the camera from a distance. Though they're not easy to spot, the two are accompanied by 7 cygnets! 6 mute swan cygnets linger close to the camera, their parents watching dutifully in the background. One sibling must be a daddy's bird, since they decided they'd rather hang out with him than eat with their siblings. I was feeding them with oats this time, I like to mix it up where I can :) Both parent mute swans keep close to their babies, watching closely as the young cygnets are very close to the humans. I need to establish that this was on a ramp, and the parents were comfortable with the cygnets literally being close enough I could've reached out and grabbed one! (Obviously never do that though the parents will kill you and/or never trust you again)

Some time at the Ponds today, we have nesting swans, a lovely blue heron (I think) and plenty of pigeons!

All but the heron appreciated peas and seeds! Heron is too shy, and would probably prefer fish :)

Male mute swan swimming away just after he filled up on some lovely peas! Some mallard ducks are around as well ^^ Very sunny today! A small group of pigeons feasting on seeds and a few peas, while keeping half an eye on the nearby human (my sister) Female mute swan sitting content on her nest. She's been doing this for around 7 years according to someone who's been coming here longer than me, so she knows what she's doing! Hopefully we'll see some wee cygnets soon :) A blue heron(?) sitting on some rocks which were placed in the pond, seemingly content. This one was further off at first, not sure when the flight happened to bring it over but a nice photo op regardless!

A pair of adult mute swans on an island (which is in the centre of the pond I visit in my local park). One is sitting on their nest while the other naps next to her. Two ducks fly past the swan parents Duck loaves! A pair of mallards, male and female, are sitting by the side of the pond with their feet tucked under themselves, forming some lovely loaves :)

Haven't been to the park as much lately (it's cold!) but stopped by again a few days ago to provide some snacks, I think the swans appreciated it. Both parents also had some but I didn't take many pictures this time lol

Soooo the #pigeons in the town centre are far more confident than the ones in the park, I found out

The guy biting my finger as I point at him was scared off the bench then HOPPED BACK UP AGAIN! But honestly, how very DARE I run out of food, it was completely justified 🤷‍♀️

Many, many pigeons gathering around my sister and I, this is what happened when they noticed our freshly bought lunch from Greggs One pigeon peeks out from behind me, I think he was trying to assassinate me for my sausage roll! They're nibbling my thumb, all I did was try to show them there was no food left :( This guy hopped off the bench when I moved (he had been threatening my hand by spinning and puffing out his chest!) He hopped back up right after though and decided that I deserved to have my finger eaten for pointing at him, which in fairness, was rude of me

Here's #SwanSpeak translated. "It's getting cold. Tell everyone the wild birds need feeding". In winter it can be life saving to give grains, seeds, greens, oats, peas, sweetcorn or swan granules for your local #waterbirds. Fresh seeded bread is OK in winter when little natural food is about #birds

It was practically the whole flock that showed up, these images barely do it justice XD

Many pigeons scattered around, they noticed I was providing corn and apparently wanted in on that. Mute swans remain in the background still in the pond, with the male keeping a dutiful eye on the situation while his cygnet eats. More pigeons have now gathered, now provided with seeds which are much more plentiful than the corn from before, and is out of reach of the swans, who are still eating in the background alongside some mallard ducks. The pigeons are now shown at a closer angle, now eating from my hand which is held flat on the ground. My favourite part of this image is the one pigeon with their beak wide open in the background, I also look like that when hungry 😌 Another closeup image of pigeons feeding from my hand, similar to the last, but this time with an eager one right up front. "Hello!"

A mute swan cygnet looks directly at the camera, having stepped out of the pond some time ago. Most of its feathers are white at this point, with only a small amount of baby feathers left. I'd prefer to discourage them from coming this close; it's not safe with some people, but I'm not sure how to... The same cygnet now leans forward, it's beak slightly open, right towards the camera once again. It was actually peeping at me, asking me to hurry up with breaking the lettuce already I suppose!

It’s grey, of course, with attractive green and purple iridescence around the neck and so forth. The light, the set of its head, and the look in its eye combine to give it a judgmental look. Specifically, it is judging YOU.

A group of mallard ducks swim together, along with some tufted ducks. I think they thought I had food lol The same group of ducks, but now including a coot! Those guys can be a little aggressive sometimes, they get hangry I guess The side of a small island in the middle of a lake, with a small grass area where various different waterfowl rest for a while. Ducks and seagulls sitting on some rocks. One male mallard is looking right at the camera; I think I startled him a bit by walking by. He might also have thought I had more food on me These rocks are a bit more submerged than usual, we had a bit of rain recently, but the birds don't seem to mind.
