So while the Champions League still holds a massive advantage in prestige, history, and importance. You can easily argue that just making the Club World Cup gives a club a considerably larger financial advantage over its domestic rivals.

But the Club WC only allows 2 clubs per country, creating a massive financial advantage just for participating over all but one domestic rival.

Eg: Manchester City & Chelsea are in line for huge paydays.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United & Tottenham get nothing.

But because of how many teams qualify for the Champions League - often at least four in the top nations - winning doesn’t give you a huge financial advantage over domestic rivals.

If winning the UCL earns ~€100M, your club’s competitors may still have made ~€50-75M.

Clubs and fans would still much rather lift a Champions League trophy, as the prestige vastly outweighs the slight difference in prize money.

FIFA just announced the prize money for the Club World Cup and it’s $1 billion!

The winner could get upwards of $125M.

That’s more than the current Champions League winners, though not by a lot.

The #USMNT’s loss to Panama in the Nations League was bad, no matter how you break it down. But there some things they can change, and some that they can’t.

Let’s discuss them all 🧵

This is what I was referencing when I suggested #ManchesterUnited was right to part ways with Alex Ferguson (even if the way Jim Ratcliffe did it was wrong).

This actually makes me feel bad for #ManchesterUnited fans bc it’s so destructive.

A washed up pundit suggests a current pundit who only coached for one season almost a decade ago should manage one of the biggest clubs in the world, and somehow it fills the news cycle?

Someone is going to pay so much money for Victor Gyökeres.

Probably way too much money, not because he’s not good but because so many good (and wealthy) clubs are missing a goal scorer and he’s in such great form.

It’s a perfect storm for an overpay.

Other players may be having better seasons, or scoring more goals. But I’m not sure any player in the Premier League has been as important to their team as Youri Tielemans has been to Aston Villa this season.
