The Daevabad Trilogy by Shannon Chakraborty has gotta be one of my faves! Tons of cool elements from Persian Mythology, among others!

we may not all be witches but it is important that we all watch out for signs of cackling, in ourselves and each other

these are hard times and things can wear you down more than you think, until the kettle on your head doesn’t seem like such a bad idea after all

At a certain point it's not even cheating death, it's playing a card game with a deck that lets you keep drawing and never letting death take a turn

With all that going on, I still had a ton of time to kill, and was searching for inspiration and a great story to follow. The Mighty Nein campaign was both.

So, seeing it animated and polished to sparkle is...a special thing.

Then in March, Covid hit -- I'd just signed onto a sublet in LA, knew almost NO ONE there, and most of my stuff was stuck on a boat in Hong Kong.

Playing D&D, both the Curse of Strahd game I DM'd, AND an epic campaign by the amazing @chasewassenar.bsky.social legit helped keep me sane

And I was just discovering a love for the game, and the storytelling potential -- as masterfully illustrated by the entire cast, and the amazing people I met through shared fandom and interest in TTRPGs in general.

It also was happening while I was in a weirdly transitionary place -- I'd left Riot to go freelance the previous year, and by the end of 2019 I'd be moving back to the states, looking to make a move into voice acting
