I met a driver tonight named Muhammad Ammer. He taught me that Ammer means explorer or pioneer. We had conversation about names, music, and living in Northern Virginia. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories.

My driver tonight is named Said. He says it is a Persian name meaning “Name” which made me smile. We talked about music and how important singing is as medicine, among other experiences. I will never understand the xenophobia in this country that prompts people to hate human beings like you and me.

Always got emotional hearing Chop Suey by SOAD. Even more so after hearing accounts of the Armenian Genocide from a dear friend affected by it. Forced to march to the peak of their holy mountain and be executed or jump “with a chance of surviving the fall.”

Pipes. Noun. Slang for vocal folds. “You have a nice set of pipes.”

This mantis stumbled around on the porch as I enjoyed the October air in Villa Rica. I sang a song to them as they shambled about. A deep and growling throat song of no discernible lyric. A “masculine?” melody for mingling with marching mantids.

I officially scared a second squirrel while throat singing on the porch the other day. The creature is summoned! “There once was a 2-Squirrel Scaring Skald! He scared two squirrels, and the squirrels now call him the 2-Squirrel Scaring Skald!” Pray a third squirrel is never startled by my songs!
