to the best of my knowledge, this is the FIRST western journalistic source to report 袁依楣 Yuan Yimei (MXTX) was in fact detained in 2019 for tax evasion ("非法經營罪"), imprisoned for 3 years, and paroled in 2021—there were HK articles but with dubious sources. i think we can now take this to be factual.

to the best of my knowledge, this is the FIRST western journalistic source to report 袁依楣 Yuan Yimei (MXTX) was in fact detained in 2019 for tax evasion ("非法經營罪"), imprisoned for 3 years, and paroled in 2021—there were HK articles but with dubious sources. i think we can now take this to be factual.
If I have brain space, I'll do a thread on how much The Rise of Phoenixes (drama, not novel) shares with Tianxia Gui Yuan's later (possibly last?) novel Ci Tian Jiao.
(Minus the - to me unnecessary - time travelling adversaries/displaced persons plot in CTJ).
