consistency in "still being a bizarre 2006-era anti-jrpg western chauvanist" *is* a form of consistency, I suppose, but it's hard to call it respectable or not-juvenile.

all the ffxiv villains are men, even if the main heroic groups are reasonably mixed gender and could maybe hit 50/50-ish. a lot of the side characters who only appear briefly are also pretty male-leaning.

to me it reads mostly as a 2016 holdover & people not updating their lingo and view of the landscape since then - like, "wine mom" as the vanguard of Hillary holdouts that just isn't very relevant anymore. It's been almost a decade and the lines have shifted.

bullying tends to be normative. the idea (to the conservative) is that there will be less queer people, feminism, racial justice, etc in a world where more suffering is allowed to be inflicted on those people. and also, maybe moreso, that non-normative people deserve to be punished regardless.
