come to think of it, this is actually something that deeply dissatisfied me about 'manhood' - it's the assumed default and is all-encompassing. that whether you present masculinity or not, [man] is seen first and foremost. even attempts to be non-conforming are just subsumed into that [man]-ness.
femininity being so highly scrutenized and policed sucks in almost every way, but like... the bright side i suppose is that being given such a narrow little box provides the ability to intentionally leave the box.
