They are demon birds. The noise they make when roosting is brutal. Scone Palace have an albino one who looks like vampire Lucy from Coppola’s Dracula.

Genuinely sad to hear that Udo Kier has died. A great actor with a piercing sense of camp and scorn but who, to me, will always be Yuri.

I don’t drive either and a young beagle needs her miles underfoot. But, yeah, I know folk who will drive to the gym but find walking weird.

Now that Disney owns The Muppets and the Alien franchise they should remake Alien but the only non-Muppet character is the xenomorph.

A physician is not angry at the intemperance of a mad patient, nor does he take it ill to be railed at by a man in a fever. Just so should a wise man treat all mankind, as a physician does his patient, and look upon them only as sick and extravagant - Seneca The Younger

My wife, who I love dearly, has a mania for baths. A three hour bath is not unheard of. I cannot tolerate it. My preference is a steam vent that flays the filth off.

In the middle of an unassuming new-build housing estate in Prestonpans, just outside Edinburgh, you can find this imposing statue. The work of Andy Scott’s, who also designed the Kelpies, it is a memorial to the 81 men and women who, throughout the 17thC, were executed in the town for witchcraft.

The soup said it came with croutons. I did not realise they meant “in a separate box”. Absolute chonker.

Brilliant talk from @drjaninaramirez.bsky.social tonight, speaking with great enthusiasm and passion about her new book Legenda. A genuinely infectious glee for history.

Far less an adaptation than an at points fairly clumsy rewrite. Del Toro understands the imagery but he’s too sentimental to really understand how brutal the narrative really is. Some very bizarre changes here, not least the Creature’s Yorkshire accent.

Although, famously, #Dante was inspired by his love for Beatrice, it is likely that she was only vaguely aware of him. This beautiful piece of glasswork by Florence Camm depicts the pair at Beatrice’s wedding, the bride unaware of the poet’s longing gaze.

First album I bought with my own money, on CD from Mike Lloyd Megastore in Hanley. Absolute bangers from start to finish. And what a shop MLM was! Spent a fortune in there over the years.
