A bit more searching seems to indicate that training a model comparable to chatGPT takes on the order of 10 GWh (gigawatt hours) of energy. This is equal to 36 TJ (terajoules).

(36 TJ) / (12.9 MJ) = 2.8 million EFB

That's a lot of boiled fish.

This gives us a grand total of about 12.9 MJ (megajoules) as our Equivalent Fish Boiling (EFB) unit.

We first raise the temp of the water from ambient to boiling (roughly 75 C):

(4.184 kJ/kg/K) * (5 kg) * (75 K) = 1569 kJ

Then, we have to put in the latent heat of vaporization to get to steam:

(2257 kJ/kg) * (5 kg) = 11285 kJ

First, we have to pick a fish. A quick google says a Salmon weighs roughly 5kg. I am going to make the crude approximation that the fish is 100% water, and we want to completely boil that water into steam.

I've always been a fan of L L Bean moccasins. Super comfy and pretty warm, plus very durable

I recall hardcover novels costing around $20 to $25 back in 2010, so honestly I feel like recent inflation hasn't even hit these yet.

Wow, I had never heard of marimo before, but if their FAQ is for real, it solves the #1 complaint I've had about notebooks for years! (and the main reason I've recommended inexperienced programmers not to use them)
