Just wait for the AMOC. But for now, both have significant mortalities in many countries each year.

Yes. I worked for a while on the Belt and Road Initiative impacts and planning in two different organizations. But like every country, and especially like any country with >1 billion people, they are full of good, bad, ugly, beautiful.

You misunderstand me. I don't disagree on catastrophic change, indeed you'll find that I've warned of this for 6+ years. But I disagree that we have no agency apart from collapse adaptation. I work on biodiversity, ecosystems, civilization. I know how crucial is each 0.1 degree of avoided heating.

You'll notice my text was full of caveats for those and other reasons. But which of our countries has higher moral ambition for the planet? I can count the nations I'd recognize on that line on the fingers of one hand.

China, not without its own flaws, nonetheless shows us what an #ecologicalcivilization might look like with Nature, climate, community at its core. It has a long way to go, like the West but I respect its high moral ambition. A good US climate/Nature leader: housedemocrats.wa.gov/lekanoff/iss...

Yes, we've seen appeasement vs zero-tolerance before. Appeasement didn't end well in Britain under Chamberlain. But European leaders do face a dilemma of managing right wing parties in government or banning them. What was easier in the 1940s with the BUF ban is a huge social+media challenge today.

I left the USA last month for Europe - for one of its most humane and democratic cities - and it feels like oxygen suddenly blowing through an opening window - even after living in one of the USA's most humane and democratic states, Washington State. This extremist US administration cannot last.

Couldn't read the article, but this quote says it all. If we cannot see in this moment the need to act with the highest possible moral ambition - alone when needed and in collaboration whenever possible - then we fail ourselves, our descendents, our attempts at civilization, and all life on Earth.

Yes, and it's dangerous in the extreme as it's happening across Europe with the most narrow profiteering and inflammatory goals in mind. Until we are all calling this out, it will continue. Most media viewers and readers don't ask themselves, "how should we follow the money?"
