Sapiens member of planet earth. Egalitarian, cynical optimist, social justice campaigner. Long time aid worker in multiple global locations. My current swan song is being a local government councilor.
As a local government councillor, I attend ANZAC Day ceremonies, which are uniquely Australian and New Zealand memorials. While showing respect to fallen soldiers I discuss my own experiences along with the full consequences of war. On Substack.
For the first time in my life, the threat of global war is again spoken of.

A long, brutally excellent, and deeply disturbing read by Nomi Klein and Astra Taylor.
Elon Musk: “It increasingly appears that humanity is a biological bootloader for digital superintelligence.”
The rise of end times fascism | Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor
The governing ideology of the far right has become a monstrous, supremacist survivalism. Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them

This makes a lot of sense.

‘Muslim and Palestinian advocacy groups have called for the term dehumanisation to be used by Australian universities, instead of two distinct terms: antisemitism and Islamophobia …. But what is dehumanisation?’
What is dehumanisation? Some want it to replace definitions of antisemitism and Islamophobia
Global tensions have put pressure on universities to adopt politicised definitions of antisemitism and Islamophobia. Dehumanisation is a more inclusive alternative.

A new post to Substack. Written in Jan 2024 but still relevant, on the sad state of our world.

I first published this in January 2024, and am posting again because it is still relevant and I am (slowly) working on an update.

Head in chopping block: My first Substack post is on a topic relevant to many I know, and I suspect people will find something in it they like and something alienating.

Life has been hectic and I've finally got a chance to post to Bluesky. So the first one is a nice one - the view from our back verandah about 18 months ago. Central Victoria, Australia.

One of my favorite reads of 2024 by the @zetkincollective.bsky.social.

“Symbolically, affectively, & materially, the car is a ‘vehicle’ for the far right, channelling apolitical investments in the status quo into reactionary forms of anti-ecological politics.”
