Anti trans radicals have long targeted parents because they know parents are the most potent figures of authoritarian violence against queer kids. Esther Ghey is merely their latest weapon.

Esther Ghey is of this parental decision, and her decision to bemoan her daughter's ability to be trans, befriend the family of her murderers, and deadname her throughout a book is because she's a fucking ghoul of a transphobe. She grieved the loss of her son, not daughter, let's be real.

The parents of trans people are notoriously unreliable figures in our lives. The phrase "deadname" arises from our communal knowledge that our own parents will erase our transition and very lives for their own narrative convenience when the world conspired to kill us before our own parents die.

Yeah but that has little relevance to the discussion at hand? Yes, culture is influenced by material conditions, but using “culture” alone (and not material constraints) as the sole justification for a practice is incoherent because “culture” covers literally every practice.

I have a good relationship with my family and even I don’t see familial bonds as sacred or anything *because* I know way too many queer and trans people with garbage families

No one knows how little blood ties mean like trans people do.

I don’t understand “culture” as a reason not to be vegan or any other issue having to do with moral concerns because “culture” is too broad as a concept and it can absorb anything from language or clothes to patriarchy within it.

The reasons for Inuit seal/whale hunting are primarily about access and food sovereignty though, both of which are very material concerns. They literally *can’t* eat anything else in their climate, and that has been true for thousands of years.

Medical reasons are fair. Cultural reasons assume culture is a static object not open to moral scrutiny.
