I'm not sure whether that street sign is offical or not. By the 1920s, the street signs were a bit more formal-looking, eg:

I had a quick look for photos of streets with signs from earlier but didn't spot any.

In reference to the alt txt, although it looks a bit like Newtown, I think it's the corner of Lambton Quay and Willis Street in central city.

The Carpark was on Plimmer Steps then moved in late 1990 to Willis Street and became The New Carpark. After it closed, the Willis St venue became the first site of The Malthouse.
