besides being important I have always thought of this as being a very interesting area of ethical inquiry because it intersects inevitably with aesthetics/aesthetic judgement!

the discussions of "moral perception" and "moral psychology" always seem to come close but not close enough to the fact that one of the most salient features of (potentially) acting well is having a perspicuous view of the situation (think *some* influenced by Aristotle/Wittgenstein get this right)

Rather than pride, isn't this simply a way of narrowly understanding the scope of those European philosophers' work? It makes more sense to me to say that they are proud of the sort of philosophy which they've inherited and simply not conscious of the parochiality and limitations of that tradition.
