on a structural level, the american government has outsourced a shockingly large amount of its state capacity to a judicial system that is, as constituted, basically designed to avoid employing subject matter expertise to resolve problems

A bar near me has a guy, his lover, his brother, and his cousin all working all employed together. If they ever have to fire that guy they’re totally fucked. Built-in union.

The internet right are far too stupid to be calling the author of the Olfactory ethics PhD thesis a midwit, I ain't listening to any of this bullshit from followers of Leo Strauss and a guy so horny for death he committed seppuku: my take

As someone who is pretty anti-toxicity myself, I think letting people remove their Tweet from your quote Tweet is pretty crazy. No one wants toxicity, but also, people have to be able to argue!

Non-binary people are much better at telling AI poetry apart from human poetry in that AI poetry study everyone's talking about.

Weird, embarrassing fact about me: I have a recurrent obsession with finding a single, perfect idea that will propagate like a perfect memetic weapon to transform society for the better. An idea like Christianity, perfectly designed and timed to explode in popularity. Anyone else like this?

The right's meme game is terrible- we have a natural experiment to prove it. The left won't make AI image memes out of ethical scruples. The right has no such barriers, and yet despite their access to this amazing new ability to conjure almost any image they like, they've done nothing funny with it.

Serves her right for not resigning
So a bigtime Republican donor took control of the "Ruth Bader Ginsburg Women’s Leadership Award," removed "Women's" from the award name, and granted the award to Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch, and Michael Milken?

The Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award was created to honor women who have created positive change in society. RBG's family says this year's change in selection criteria betrays her legacy.

I just wrote an article on the latest atrocity and the question of moral lines. The only thing I want to add is this: genocide is a social process. Thus, those who knowingly defend genocide are participating in that social process, and are therefore guilty of genocide.

I have a question for those supporting Israel's actions
Israeli bombing has killed many thousands of Gazan civilians. Recently, an Israeli airstrike directly and intentionally hit a refugee camp, on their account to try and take out a Hamas leader: My ques...

Also, the crypto bros were pumping NFTs and whatnot while Open AI was releasing groundbreaking models. They were relatively late on the AI bandwagon.

I don't disagree with anything here, but something feels off. No one should be taking 'fixer-upper' partners, romance doesn't work like that, but the invocation of 'fragility' and 'insecurity' as the key problems kind of reminds me of a liberal version of "Why can't men be men anymore and keep

I get this ad on Facebook. It comes about a month after I had a health scare which I posted about on Facebook. Is it a coincidence? I would say so. Yet the nature of technocapitalist enterprise is that it's unknowable. Like a panopticon, I am uneasy because I may be being watched.
