And again. This time for the 1st down to move the chains.

Goedert usually starts just behind the line of scrimmage like he might slice behind the line to block. It helps from a timing standpoint to start off behind the WR who is setting the pick.

This combo still has the WR provide interference, but instead of the arrow route in the previous examples, it's a short out route beyond the sticks.

Hurts might never become the greatest quick game thrower. But the team was too devoid of non-rpo quick game prior to Kellen. Quick game are simple route combos with a simple read designed to get the ball out quick on short passes.

These are all simple route combo variations of the stick concept.

The Eagles need to move the chains better.....which is a crazy thing to need to say with this talent. I'm fishing through the short passing game from last year. I showed mesh the other day. This thread is another simple concept from '24 they can also bring back for cheap yards.

I can't remember the last time this season that Calcaterra caught a pass off a hot route. I always forget the difference b/w hot and site adjustment. But basically, he sees someone is going and that he's uncovered. He turns around open. Hurts knows he's going to do this pre-snap if he's hot.

WRs setting screens for Goedert, double digit gain.

Super Bowl. AJ was moving better than he is now, but still not quite at his peak. He almost didn't finish the season due to injury. That's ok, set a bunch of picks in mesh and he's open. When two TE's set interference, one would sit over short middle in case that wasn't covered.
December 6, 2025 at 9:43 AM
Slim and AJ both were out later in this game due to injury. Without this mesh concept, we maybe don't win the game.
December 6, 2025 at 9:43 AM
2 guys creating interference for Goedert. AJ gets in the DB's way without drawing a penalty.

I think every one of these plays has two guys creatiing interference to free up one guy in addition to a RB out on a route.
December 6, 2025 at 9:43 AM
I don't watch the passing game in detail every game. But judging by Bears game, we ran mesh much better last year than this one. 5 example thread. No volume.

Look at the interference the two TE's provide for Slim. Look at the smart use of motion to help Slim get freed up.
December 6, 2025 at 9:43 AM
Maybe AJ from one to two years ago makes that first down. I could be wrong, but I don’t think this one would.

This is what hurts sees as AJ turns his head around with eight more yards to go for first down and a bunch of defenders at the first down marker.
December 4, 2025 at 9:53 PM
This is where AJ does his best. He is not a deep ball threat. He is good at slants, but no longer a master. Throw a 20-30 yd back shoulder on a rope and let him box someone out, low RZ, intermediate dig from outside # s. Occasional Mesh where he usually sets pick. Occasional slant. He's WR2.
December 4, 2025 at 6:03 PM
3rd and 9. Still not hots vs the blitz, but they at least realize the situation, max protect, and dial up Slim beyond the sticks.
December 4, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Another 3rd down 2 yard drag wAJ as primary.
This one is at least a decently designed mesh for the 1st time all game.

But even if Hurts throws this to AJ with near perfect timing, it is 4 yards short of the stix with a waiting overhang who can probably make the tackle.
December 4, 2025 at 5:06 PM
AJ doesn't come open on the primary (5 yard slant) until > 1.5 seconds and has to get away with an obvious push off in order to do it.

Hurts choosed to dump it off. Too many of our route combos are slow.
December 4, 2025 at 4:50 PM
Oh they finally ran a snap of pony. Hold onto your hats folks, this might be excit.....uggh. A throw to the flats who everyone on the D is watching that would have been more likely to be open with Yac potential on a simple slant/flat.

BTW, where did slant/arrow go in this year's offense?
December 4, 2025 at 4:33 PM
Ah another 1 yard drag route. This is what play action was designed for? This is what we endured those shitty run designs for? 5 outside zones for this? Is a 12-year-old designing this? Are they forcing balls to AJ to keep him happy?
December 4, 2025 at 4:22 PM
3rd and 9. Blitz. No hot routes. No rub routes for Goedert to get open on the crosser.

Just one year ago we won a couple games due to well schemed crossers/mesh. KP and Siri were here for that. They should remember. Where did it go?
December 4, 2025 at 4:11 PM
The 2nd and final (only 2 smart ones all game) "good" run play. It looks like some sort of inside zone at first and then Dickerson does a dipsy doo on the DL and gets on the outside. He and Mailata then form a wall for Barkley to hit. Saquon knows where the hole is going to be before the snap.
November 30, 2025 at 2:33 PM
I partially take it back. They had 2 good plays and 3 mediocres. This is their C gap run that blocks almost like split zone, but with a TE double instead of a TE swipe. Can also RO/RPO/arc block off this look.

I thought it was something else at first. Good play.

Outside zone again. They are punking us. Someone get a shot of Siri and KP on the sidelines. Are they giggling? Is this a trick?

You silly tricksters. You are so so silly.

Outside zone again. What a stupendous game plan.

Every fucking boo. Every fucking one. They deserve every boo. There weren't enough boos. Every man, woman, and child should have booed.

If the Cheerleaders started booing, I would have given them all Christmas bonuses.

I am fine with an occasional pin/pull from the Eagles if Jurgy is healthy enough to pull it off.

I am not fine with Calcaterra blocking an edge on this play. He's a net negative here. There is a limited menu of run blocks I trust Calcaterra with. This is not one of them.
November 30, 2025 at 1:16 PM
Their 3rd or 4th outside zone to the left already despite early in the game.

Kellen Moore would not do this. Anyone with a clue self-scouting the Eagles would not do this.

Stout, KP, Siri......what are you doing? Howie/Lurie....why are you allowing this 13 weeks in?
