Feeling tired & so so (SO!!!) inspired by the 185 Albertans who showed up last night to reject the Alberta govt's plans to reopen coal mining in the Rockies and push oil & gas cleanup costs onto taxpayers (while saying they don't have $$$ for teachers). Change starts with us! ✊ #ABLeg #ABPoli #YYC

Down @ city hall for the Calgary student walkout & I'm SO impressed by the energy and rage of these high-schoolers!!! Many kids agreed that it's infuriating that the AB govt won't pay teachers more, yet they want to use OUR tax dollars to let O&G companies walk away from cleanup! #ABLeg #YYC #ABPoli

These are 3 of the 300,000+ unreclaimed oil & gas wells in AB. Cleanup is estimated to cost as much as $130 BILLION, and our provincial govt wants to push those costs onto taxpayers instead of making companies pay. Learn more about this plan & how to stop it at CleanUpYourMess.ca #ABLeg #ABPoli

🚨 LIVE now: "MAS is a strategy for industry, not for landowners and Albertans." - Bill Heidecker, president of the AB surface rights federation, speaking to the Warburg-Pembina surface rights group about the government of Alberta's "Mature Asset Strategy" (MAS). [1/n] #ABLeg #ABPoli

🚨 Premier Smith's mandate letter to Energy Minister Brian Jean directs him to push thru the Mature Asset Strategy (MAS) despite growing opposition. MAS risks weakening cleanup standards, and shifting BILLIONS of industry's cleanup costs onto taxpayers. open.alberta.ca/dataset/b076... #ABLeg #ABPoli

Still reflecting on my time @ ACFN's Decolonizing Land & Water Summit last week. I learned SO much. But my biggest takeaway is how grateful I am for the people in my life who want to make real change happen. Decolonization isn't just some concept to support in theory, we have to make it a reality.

Last week, Rob Morgan, CEO of the Alberta Energy Regulator, unilaterally stepped in to cancel an already scheduled hearing. This is an anti-democratic abuse of process by the CEO of a regulator which is *supposed* to act in the public interest. static.aer.ca/prd/document... #ABLeg #ABPoli

10 years (a whole DECADE!) since my 1st trip to Fogo Island and the 1st field-season of my MSc. This was a foundational experience for who I have become today, and I'll be forever grateful for the mentorship I received from my supervisor @brettfavaro.bsky.social & all the fishermen I worked with.

What's worse is that the Alberta govt is treating non-payment by delinquent companies as a given and including payment on their behalf in our provincial budget. The 2025-28 fiscal plan includes "$25 million per year for surface rights compensation payments previously not included in budgets" #ABLeg
