An email announcement for the upcoming Santa Fe Institute Complexity Coffee on Nascent Research Ideas event. The email reads: We're pleased to invite you to the first event in our new Nascent Research Ideas forum, taking place on October 15th, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM London time (Please disregard previous email). Zoom Link: Complexity Coffee: Nascent Research Ideas This session is designed for interaction. It will feature three short presentations, each followed immediately by a dedicated Q&A session with the speaker. Our presenters are: Anelise Assumpção will discuss her doctoral research, and the complexity of dealing with data in text format that requires a high degree of interpretation. How the inherent complexity of textual data arises from its dependence on interpretation, context, and linguistic nuance, which makes its processing particularly challenging in academic research. Emilio Munoz will present his work on Order-Aware State Representations for Path-Dependent Reinforcement Learning, exploring how we might design compact state representations that preserve chronological order while still being computationally feasible. Phileas Dazeley-Gaist will discuss their ongoing work with the 2025 CGS Sympoietic Art Organism group. The talk will showcase a citation network grown by a small artist community in intentional collaboration working from a shared commons. Over a series of co-creative cycles, artists iteratively remix and take inspiration from works already in the commons, contributing new pieces while tracking citation relationships. We believe this new series is an important one for us to host because it provides an interactive platform for the fresh, interdisciplinary work emerging from our community. The goal is to share research in its early stages, host substantive discussion, to provide early-stage feedback, and to spark new collaborations. We hope to see you there. Interestingly, OpenAI's earlier image generative model, DALL·E 3 doesn't behave this way. In my tests, it favoured feminine depictions. Here are a few tests I attempted trying to replicate the behaviour described in the linked article (with the same prompting):

I'm giddy with excitement! I just finished implementing a proof of concept program to visualise nested community hierarchies on graphs (even really tangled ones). These plots made my day:
