Well, I'm here, now. I'm glad to see that many of my favorite people (and cats) are here too, although I haven't searched for my entire list of previous follows from the bird site yet. Still also known as @PhD_Frog@mas.to on Mastodon and u/PhD_Frog on Reddit.
TBH, I'm thankful for paper towels every time I have to clean up a cat barf. 😾
At this point, the Washpost edit page is just trolling its readers.

This is today's actual house editorial.

Remember last year when we said we would drop The Tribune's paywall if we raised enough money to support the transition to free? About that… 😁

I sure remember this. As a counterpoint, I highly recommend "The Making of the Atomic Bomb", by Richard Rhodes, which I read right around the end of the Cold War. Rhodes made a strong argument for Niels Bohr's theory of openness as the way to defuse the nuclear threat.
Tonight in 1983, more than 100 million Americans saw multiple thermonuclear weapons destroy Kansas City, Missouri, in “The Day After” on ABC. A.C. Nielsen Company reported that 62 percent of television sets that night were tuned to the film. I watched in my packed college dorm lounge. How about you?

Trump doesn’t have to call on House Republican to vote to release the file.

Trump can order Bondi and Patel to release the files. Tomorrow.

The question is, has he already ordered Bondi and Patel to destroy some of the files after they went through them months ago.
Trump: "House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide."

For the umpteenth time: The most obvious answer is most always the correct answer. Donald Trump most likely was a client in Epstein’s pedophilia ring, and Trump most likely sexually abused & victimized young girls. That’s always been the most obvious answer here.

Blah. This isn't exactly a surprise since my mom died of Alzheimer's and my oldest sister now has it too, but I've learned that I have two copies of the APOE4 allele, which is as bad as it gets for inherited risk. 😟 I keep hoping I'll die from something else first.

The only positive thing I see coming out of the Democrats' pathetic cowardice in the Senate is that they may force the House to get back into session.... and have to release the Epstein files.

Read the whole linked article. The writing is 🔥🔥🔥🔥!
The entire scene looks like Norman Rockwell painted The Death of Empathy, directed by Jeffrey Dahmer and executive produced by Satan. Hang this next to The Scream and the painting would lean over and whisper, Is that guy okay.

⛸️ I guess that finishing 6th at NHK, behind two other US teams and 25+ points behind the winners, was probably not part of the plan for the Shibutanis to make their comeback.

Seriously, Trump could have taken an easy win by accepting the previous court decision instead of appealing -- he could take credit for restoring SNAP benefits while simultaneously playing to his base by saying the court made him do it!
The SCOTUS administrative stay is a terrible thing for 42 million Americans who are uncertain if they'll have food in November.

But make sure to blame the *real* villain: Convicted Felon Donald Trump. It was his decision to appeal in the first place.

Trump could just fully fund the SNAP benefits.

Here in Colorado Springs, the "blue wave" from the off-year elections seems like it's happening on another planet. The only election here was the local school board election and the GOP-endorsed pro-censorship/anti-education candidates won all 3 spots.

I'm a software engineer who's old enough to remember the first AI boom in the 1980s (which was quickly followed by the "AI winter" in the early 1990s). The thing that concerns me the most about the current AI boom is that we are burning up our planet to power these giant AI data centers.
Tech companies are pouring money into AI, and they’re not making it back. Matteo Wong and Charlie Warzel on how everything could come crashing down: https://theatln.tc/QJfnnK6X

Look closely at the "girl" on the right; that's actually a boy in the pink dress. In the 18th century young boys were dressed the same as girls until they were "breeched". The main "tell" that this is a boy is his masculine hair style, and perhaps the dog.

Were the guys who hauled this woman away any kind of law enforcement officers with a warrant for her arrest? Or was she just kidnapped by random people while a police officer stood by and did nothing? How can we possibly know the difference?
I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.
