I think what also helps is that... the games are still there. Outside of a bigger focus on better animation and character expression (and even then that's debatable), the movies haven't really impacted the games in any significant way, even if the opposite is definitely true

like, when I drew movie designs for my OCs, thinking about how they would be reinterpreted for a new medium was the first thing on my mind. stuff like leaning way further into Pearl being royalty, or Brooke being more of a condescending smartass. I found that kind of reinterpretation really cool

what if Jr. doesn't know his dad all that well (for... reasons I guess, I'm sure the movie can give a good explanation for it) and internalized him as this ruthless, murderous, vicious conqueror and that's why he's putting on such a tough, no-nonsense facade

it took a few rewatches but I'm kind of digging his movie voice now. i think it clicks once you start picturing Jr. in the movies as closer to 17 when he's a lot closer to 7 in the games if that makes sense

I think the first movie sorta tried that but Luigi kinda gets sidelined once he gets kidnapped

i certainly understand why people are nervous about the casting choices for the new characters and maybe they're playing it up for the bit, but I feel like some of the posts I've seen are overreacting a bit

it's all human emotion at the end of the day.
this is also why i never liked the term "nostalgia blind." Nobody's invalid for appreciating a piece of media they grew up with, and writing it off as them being "nostalgia blind" disregards the qualities that held such a lasting effect on them.

this is something that's always bothered me with discussing older games, nostalgia is just as valid a reason to be attached to a game as any other.
loving a game because you grew up with it should be no different from loving a game because you're immersed in the world or think the gameplay is fun.

idk what the general consensus on this design is but this might just be my favorite Yoshi design ever. absolutely taking inspiration from this whenever I draw Yoshis from now on, that's for sure
