★—_—💧 Old, worn out and ineffective. Just an avid fan of anime and manga ever since I could remember.
Phoenix: Yamato Chapter

The second installment of a trilogy of OVA's by Madhouse, directed by Toshio Hirata.

In this part the focus shift to the very beginning of Japanese history, depicting the human condition and an attempt to leave one's mark behind, a tale of morality that transcends time.

Phoenix: Karma Chapter

The first of a trilogy of OVA's by Madhouse, this one directed by Rintarou, based on what could be considered Osamu Tezuka's greatest work.

A story about two people in which reincarnation and the meaning of life play a heavy role. Repeating the cycle of birth and death.

I've watched a lot of OVA's this year, so I'll post more reaction to some of the ones that stood out to me and have been thinking about since I saw them.

Another Dezaki OVA that I would recommend is Kasei Yakyoku (1989).

This one is set in Taisho era Japan and deals with the juxtaposition of the old and new, a romance story filled with passion and conflict.

Good stories leave you wanting more and this one was no exception.

A while ago I watched an OVA series called B.B Burning Blood. It's a Dezaki from the early 90's about a delinquent, who has a passion for music, turned boxer.

Left me wanting way more, it's a shame the manga is not translated. Anyways B.B Burning Blood is a great little treat, highly recommended.

Wanted to start reading some more classic authors and this time is Shotaro Ishinomori.

Ryuujin Numa is a collection of short stories which varied in tone and effect. The Fog, The Rose, The Star And stood out to me from the others, it felt more like what his works would later evolve to (Cyborg 009)

Finished reading my first Tezuka manga, Shinsengumi.

The juxtaposition of gag and the more serious elements of the story took a bit to get used to but overall it was very enjoyable.

A story about a young boy seeking revenge, a meaningless quest.

I recently watched Naoki Urasawa's Manben Neo episode on Osamu Tezuka.
Seeing Naoki describe how as a kid he could only dream of reading the second part of Phoenix: Civil War because the magazine which it ran on got cancelled, has really made me want to read his works, a legend of the medium.
