Pittsburgh DSA’s Hot Food Distro is every Second and Fourth Wednesday of the month at Community Forge in Wilkinsburg. From 6-8 PM we serve prepared meals to members of our community in need. This is the same strategy the US and Israel have implemented in the genocidal erasure of Palestinians over the last two years. The US and Israel paved the way for this strategy in 2021 when they held hands as the only two UN general assembly members to vote against codifying food as a human right. It comes as no surprise that an empire that would enforce starvation war tactics abroad (a war crime) would employ the same tools against its own people when it becomes profitable or necessary for the ruling class. The old world is dying, and a new one is being born. As capitalism's inherent exploitation of the natural world and our humanity begin to cannibalize themselves, the contradictions that Marx spoke about are becoming more difficult to ignore. As patriarchy, capitalism, imperialism, and all forms of domination begin to die, they rip off their masks screaming, leaving behind any performance of dignity or compassion they had ever tried to sell the working class. While we collectively brace ourselves through the horrors that have persisted over the last two years in Palestine, let us sharpen our tools for the horrors yet to come, and re-commit to the long and short term solutions to the violent survival scenarios the ruling class is inflicting upon us. In the immediate term, you may already know what that means: stocking and maintaining local food pantries and community refrigerators, building networks of care and resistance, taking control of your food supply by growing and preserving what you can, reallocating abundance from food drives to free meals to grocery hand-outs throughout your neighborhoods. Start small, connect with your neighbors and get to know their needs. Start thinking collectively about the ways you source, prepare and consume the food you eat. Have more community meals, or support your local food distros (Pittsburgh has one of the most robust mutual aid networks in the states!) In the long term, the most important thing that we do is learn to love one another, build together, and help each other imagine a future where everyone is full. Nearly 40% of the food products produced in America end up in a landfill without ever being opened. As long as we uphold an economy that prioritizes wealth over human need, we will watch our neighbors go hungry while landfills choke our neighborhoods and bury communities abroad. As we imagine and start building toward a socialist future, we cannot lose faith in one another or the hope that millions of small actions will force the revolution we need to survive capitalism. We must sustain and invest in ourselves and our neighbors; allowing our hearts to redefine "family" and "community" as we carve out a space for one another in a new world. Think big and dream radically; listen and learn from the folks already doing the work, lift from the bottom to lift everyone up, and devote yourself to one another. May our Palestinian brothers and sisters in resistance inspire us to break through the walls of our own oppression, in the name of justice and liberation for all. Pittsburgh DSA's Statement in Solidarity with SNAP Benefit Recipients. (1/2)

The text reads Pittsburgh DSA stands In solidarity with victims of snap cuts. “This empire is at war with its poorest communities” As our government enters month two of its shut down, Pittsburgh DSA stands in solidarity and community with those experiencing food insecurity, and now, cuts to SNAP (also known as "foodstamps"). pghdsa.org The Trump Administration could ensure that benefit continue to be paid by complying with a Federal Court Order and releasing $6 Billion in from the SNAP emergency reserve. So far, it has chosen not to do so. Nearly 40% of SNAP recipients are children. Our hearts and solidarity are with them and their caregivers especially- victims of an incompetent federal government. Countless others are elders, neighbors with disabilities, and hard-working folks, caring for one another. Cutting SNAP benefits at a time when Americans are reeling from sky-high healthcare premiums, food prices, and electricity bills, our leaders subsidize tax breaks for the rich, bailouts for capitalist leaders, daily bombings of Somalia, and the genocidal interests of the settler colonial project known as "Israel" at the same time. Meanwhile, the corporate oligarchy uses the stolen wages of the working class to build massive carceral structures, police training facilities, and immigration detention centers across the nation. We experience our friends and neighbors being disappeared across the empire each day through the perils and violence of poverty: through carceral institutions, exposure to the elements, lack of healthcare access, or as byproducts of the free labor that the 13th amendment "legally" robs from us. Even if foodstamp benefits are restored today, the Trump administration continues to implement more difficult barriers for the poor and disabled to qualify for food support. This is a tactic of eugenics targeting those that have no value to the oligarchy: folks who are too young, old, or disabled to work for Capitalists' poverty wages. Don't cover your eyes and ears in this moment! What we're experiencing today is the deadliness of the imperial boomerang and the fulfillment of a promise: what Imperialism does abroad, Fascism and the willful ignorance of liberalism will repeat at home. As this country becomes increasingly militarized and conscientious objectors to violence become increasingly criminalized, suppressed in the algorithms that rule our communications, or slandered and murdered by police, they're saying the quiet part out loud: this is a war on the poor, and the empire is ready to inflict violence in more creative ways than you can yet imagine. Make no mistake that SNAP cuts are the empire's way of declaring one thing: this empire is at war with its poorest communities, and at best they don't care if working class children, disabled, houseless and elderly family members die by slow starvation.

These were those ideas:
1. The restructuring of state and federal Houses of Representatives into proportionally elected chambers comprised of officials from multi-member electoral districts; i.e., the repeal and/or amendment of the Uniform Congressional District Act (UCDA) and passage of the Fair Representation Act (FRA). 2. The implementation of single-transferable voting (STV), also known as proportional ranked-choice voting (PRCV), for all multi-winner municipal, state, and federal elections. 3. The Abolition of private campaign financing in favor of public funding for all electoral campaigns; i.e., the overturning of Buckley v. Valeo and Citizens United v. FEC. 4. The election of single-winner offices, including but not limited to the Presidency, through direct popular ranked choice voting; i.e., the marginalization of the Electoral College via the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC). 5. Citizen ballot initiatives (CBIs) in all fifty states.
