In 1990 I visited Machu Picchu for five days. On the last day, the National Orchestra of Peru and a ninety voice choir performed Mozart's "Requiem" at the site. Peru was convulsed in civil conflict. It was billed as "Gran Concierto Por la Paz". A few hundred visitors attended. Unforgettable.
