Also know that if your country has or might soon have a right-wing government (like many European countries, unfortunately), and they see this shit working in the US, they WILL absolutely try copying it. We're not safe because we're not in the US. We have to fight in solidarity, everywhere.

This reminds me of all the shorts starting with the “do you want to get women” clip into and cut to you dryly replying “no thank you” and talking about code. That had me cackling every time.

That perspective is truly cursed.

I know that "the year of the Linux desktop" is a bit of a meme, and I wouldn't say that year has come (or perhaps will ever come) for everyone using a computer. But for very many people, I am confident to say that the year to give the Linux desktop a try is definitely upon us.

Some things are still a bit inconvenient due to things I need for uni, work or my social life not being available aside from a web interface. It's not the Linux community's fault that WhatsApp and MS Office aren't available natively. Those are anti-consumerist choices by Meta and Microsoft.

I've become incredibly grateful for the people who maintain everything that makes Linux and the entire FOSS ecosystem around it possible, voluntarily. These people seriously know their stuff, and have been very helpful whenever I had questions.
