Sneak peek of my latest project.
Oh, wait— I’m on Bluesky, I don’t have to embed my message about free speech in an innocuous post!
Anyway, fuck conservatism, fuck Sinclair media, and fight on Kimmel!

I was a film student in the 80s— there were exciting women filmmakers breaking ground-one of them being Kathryn Bigelow.
The fact that she’s an Oscar-winning director & her name appears *NO WHERE* on the trailer for her next film tells you why I saw-and still don’t see-a path for myself in film.

Did you watch Cheif of War? I was one of 20+ people who worked for months on the costumes.
Sadly, only a fraction got credit.
So here’s a picture of part of the team-Designer, asst designers, textile artists, dyers, sculptors, milliners, pattern makers, cutters, stitchers & coordinators.

A friend on IG posted how long it takes her to sew one of her adorable vintage-inspired kitty hats, almost as if she was apologizing on the length of time it takes.
No one does this with oil painters.
Just another reminder how sewing is demeaned by patriarchy. 🫠

This was at a location I was filming in 2023.

Pretty sure someone opened this in 2016

Who wants a patch?
Made these for my fellow Angelenos. The large is 8” and the XL is 9”

$18 incl shipping, but I only have these three!
Act now!

Just got back from Superman.
It was perfect. (I ❤️ the ‘78 film, & I eschew the Snyderverse)
The film has many analogs- this character is musky trump, this situation is a troll farm, etc.
We could have had a hero match as well, but people didn’t want to vote for the black aapi woman for president.

If any teacher had explained sewing was math, maybe I would have paid attention. Or felt more confidence doing math-because I was already doing it in a practical sense.
Anyway, just one more reminder of how my skill is demeaned by this patriarchal society! 🫠

I work in the film/tv industry as a seamstress
“Work”
I’ve worked 4 1/2 months in ‘23
12 weeks in ‘24
9 days this year

Anyway, I made a bingo card for other un/underemployed film industry-I know I’m not the only one going through this.

Today’s foray into the films of the 70s/80s is none other than Can’t Stop the Music. Perfect costume inspo while beading.
I love films from this time period because they are batshit crazy.

Said squid.
I kept coming back to the Ice Storm as inspo (I have no clue why)
I went with orange/gold spandex and a 70s zip jumpsuit vibe.
If you look close, one tentacle has a wine glass, one has a cigarette.

Yes, this is a disco ball banana.
I had a lot of banana prototypes for a Josephine Baker costume.

There’s been a lot of great graffiti in LA, and I’ve been thinking about embroidery patterns from the 20s to 40s is a similar quest of expression

Got a day of work (that’s makes 5 this year 🫠)
Day Checking is to come onto a show for one to a few days to help the department get over the hump of a big scene or episode.

I was reminded of why I can’t leave my beloved Los Angeles: at Bob Baker Day (a day to honor the local marionette theater), I saw this low rider puppet, and if that ain’t worth being in love with a place, then nothing is!

Juzging (is that how you spell it?) a burlesque costume for Lux LaCroix for Viva Las Vegas Icons show.
