Maps of Pennsylvania with weird numbers of districts, and election analysis
Finally, Rep. Barbara Gleim’s 199th district includes Carlisle (college town) plus rural areas

It voted Republican for Recorder of Deeds by just 3.4%

And in the statewide Superior Court race, Democrat Brandon Neuman lost it by a narrower margin (1.05%) than Shapiro in ‘22 (8/9)

The more exurban 87th district, held by Thomas Kutz, voted Shapiro-Oz in 2022

It voted Republican in this year’s Recorder of Deeds election by 4.3% (7/9)

The 88th district, based in Harrisburg’s suburbs and held by Sheryl Delozier, has been on Democrats’ radar the past couple cycles, as it voted for both Fetterman and Shapiro in 2022

Democrat Susan Turner won it comfortably, by 8.5%, in the 2025 Recorder of Deeds race (6/9)

Tuesday saw a seismic shift on the Susquehanna’s west bank

Ancestrally Republican Cumberland County didn’t just vote for Democrats at the top of the ticket, it also elected Dems to 3 county-level offices

With 35% of precincts reporting, Krasner looks to be replicating his 2021 coalition powered by Black voters across the city plus white neighborhoods outside the Northeast

With all precincts reporting, Democrat James Malone leads by 0.89%.

Keep in mind, SD-36 completely excludes the City of Lancaster. It's the once reliably-red suburbs, exurbs, and small towns that have flipped this district.

I’ve mapped the 2024 PA Row Office elections by State House district

In each race the Republican won 109 districts to the Democrat’s 94

HD-2 voted Sunday-Kenyatta-McClelland, while HD-30 voted DePasquale-DeFoor-Garrity

Democrat Sean Dougherty entered the race just before the primary, unseating the incumbent Kevin Boyle, whose bad personal behavior could be the subject of another thread

Dougherty outperformed Harris just enough to win, particularly in the Trump-won 58th and 63rd wards (8/11)

A comfortably Democratic district in the Obama years, the current 172nd gave Biden just a 7% margin in 2020, before narrowly flipping to Trump this year (7/11)

Some of those suburban races were indeed close this year

But the closest race of all? The one that put Democrats over the top to return their 102-101 majority? The 172nd House District in Northeast Philadelphia (5/11)

Aside from a couple rural districts that flipped from Democrat to Republican, these are all suburban districts, mostly concentrated in Southeast PA

And all are at least two thirds white by Voting Age Population (3/11)

In 2022, after 12 years out of power, Democrats won a 1-seat majority in the Pennsylvania House

Here were the 10 closest districts that year (2/11)

If PA's state house map were redrawn based on the county-level population estimates published this week, HD10 would likely move from Philadelphia to western Cumberland County, as shown below

Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, and York are currently underrepresented by 0.72 districts

And here's the 2023 Pennsylvania Supreme Court election by State Senate district

Dem Dan McCaffery won 29/50 districts, including 4 that were won by Republicans in 2022, and 3 R-held seats that are up this year

Those are:
SD15, by 11%
SD37, by 2.7%
SD49, by 0.1% (62 votes!)

At long last, I present the 2023 Pennsylvania Supreme Court election by State House district

Democrat Dan McCaffery won a whopping 112/203 districts, as Republicans’ downballot strength in the exurbs evaporated in response to the Dobbs decision

Who would represent this State Senate district?

1,052,935 Democrats voted in the 2023 PA Supreme Court Primary, compared to 823,925 Republicans

Looking by House district, some of that gap is explained by ancestral Dems

But Dem turnout was also strong in places you might not expect, like the Lehigh Valley and Central Bucks

Pennsylvania drawn in the style of the Texas Senate, with a brutal Republican gerrymander. Trump win 19/31 seats by 10% or more, and not even Tom Wolf wins a majority of seats.

Pennsylvania in the style of the Texas House. 150 districts and county line rule. Median districts are Biden +0.5% in SW Chesco and Lower Bucks.
