Hi Julia, yes I set up a profile but haven’t really used this so much.

I’ve not heard that but it certainly sounds possible.

I know how you feel, you would know what’s best in the end, if it ever came to it. It depends if you/badger group think a vet would can help, if it’s a trapping whilst a scared badger is still mobile and very alert, just to be put down, trapping and the stress of trapping may not be the best option.

Haha! Yes, we’ve had the alarmist badger reverse, to new garden ornaments!

I totally believe that, he’s right. Wild and free as nature intended. Trapping is incredibly stressful so it has to be very seriously thought about if it’s best in the circumstances, and in hers, it wasn’t, I knew they would put her down and she wanted to do her thing to the end. Xx

Yes, she would definitely have gone back down the sett, after she got her food, they were near our side & she wasn’t traveling far. They have underground chambers and if one dies underground, they believe the others will wall them up there. That certainly makes sense.

Yes, she was a sweetheart & my favourite. Spent many a happy time in her company but she was determined to the end & loved her wild life & her sett mates… 🌈

She kept going for several weeks, coming for food & had even put on a bit of weight. I watched her go off one night and then she didn’t come the following night, she would have just gone to sleep & died in the sett, which was for the best but obviously very sad.

Yes, we lost little badge in November. She wasn’t right & started losing weight, discussed trapping her with the badger group & wildlife hospital. But as she looked to have serious injuries and would likely be put down. I didn’t want her to go through the stress of trapping for that.

Yes, it’s difficult. I actually have seen our male for a couple of weeks but I’m pretty sure he’s just off doing Brock stuff 😉

He’s male though & he’ll be out and about chasing after the ladies, that’ll take out some fat reserves too!!

Awww 🥰

Yes, that sounds about right!!! I saw the female, after a long absence, opened the door, she ran, skidded, fell in a heap, got up and bolted off like a scared rabbit! Where normally, they’d stop. I’ve seen them on camera sucking up worms so they’re happy enough!! I’m sure yours will be ok too 💚😃

He looks ok to me. They can live off their fat reserves in Winter and don’t come out as much, sleeping for days or staying in the Sett. They can also be more wary & skittish in Winter, even avoiding friendly humans. In the Autumn they are obsessed with eating to bulk up, they are less eager now.

Maybe one day! 😁

I live in the seaside town of Leigh-on-sea and badgers are very common here 😁 They are hugely adaptive to urban settings. Which surprised me at first. Sarah is right, if you do find a sett let your local badger group know 👍

I know it’s the same here, they really don’t like confrontation.
