Winds have been steadily gusting to 40-45mph at Sandia Crest early this morning creating wind chill readings in the single digits. Be prepared for brisk conditions if you are heading up to enjoy the fresh snow later today. #NMwx #Sandias

Love all seasons in the #Sandia Mountains but there’s nothing better than fresh pow this time of year. #seasonschange

Enjoying a total of 26.5 cm (10.4”) of fluffy snow in the East Mountains. Our 5th biggest 24-hour total since we started tracking at this location in 2012. Thank you cold, low-level upslope flow. #NMwx

Finally… decent sized snowflakes surviving and sticking down to 6,800’ and probably even lower.

A comparison of the 12Z GFS & 12Z ECMWF total predicted snowfall ending 12/4, initialized yesterday (11/29) and 7 days ago (11/22).

ABQ has not seen more than 24” of snowfall in a season since 2006-07 and in a calendar year since 1973.

Things change.

What’s the most significant advice you received from a teacher?

I had a Geology prof who always said “have strong opinions, loosely held”

Be passionate, assess alternatives with conviction, take sides. But don’t fall so in love with your opinions that you can’t change them with better data.

Snow accumulation levels lowered to around 8,200’ in the Sandias with a slushy inch or so at the base of the ski area. #nmwx

Incredibly warm at 10,000 feet in central NM. Max temperatures in the lower 50s at Sandia Crest past two days. Minimum temperatures didn’t even drop below 40F this morning. Ready for the pattern change!

And now for #Aurora pillars? Pretty wild viewing in the 87047!

Spied Quantas’ longest nonstop Airbus 380-800 service, Flight 7, Sydney to DFW, as it cruised over central NM at 39K feet this morning. It landed about 75 minutes after my pics below. My pics were a bit too late to capture the quad engines but it was pretty cool to see. #AvGeek

Latest weekly mean precipitation anomalies from the European model’s (ECMWF) sub-seasonal ensemble run. A weak but encouraging signal for increased potential of mountain snow at times for northern NM during the last two weeks of November! Worth watching… #nmwx

Remnant moisture from Priscilla reached central #NM today. Little in way of rainfall with round one but more on the way.

A lot of #hail in our local area earlier today. Fortunately, it was mostly in the dime to penny size range with a few larger hail stones. #nmwx

Absolutely hammered! Hail up to at least 1” diameter. 1555 MDT. #nmwx

Captured this incoming self cloud very early morning. The nearest lightning strike was only a couple hundred yards away. #nmwx

Just over 3” total precipitation for the month so far. Only two previous Septembers since 2012 where we have measured >3” for the month. Doubt we’ll top the record-breaking events of 2013, but this afternoon/evening storms could push us close to 4”. #nmwx

The aspens are beginning to trend awesome in the Sandias. Still a couple of weeks before they peak it appears. This weekend’s wet weather and cooler days may change that. #SandiaMountains #FallColors

A crisp 44F for a low earlier this morning. That’s our coldest MinT since May 27th! #nmwx #FallWeathet
