My bf meeting my family for thanksgiving and a wedding was a success!! My wicked sister of the east wasn’t at the wedding but like clockwork, right after he leaves the state, she’s in my ear about him being rude for not saying goodbye to every single person otw out

Fighting with people on TikTok because they’re trying to claim #booktok is the reason why books are bad quality (physically) these days. It’s the rise in the capitalism and they doubled down saying it’s bc ppl buy 30 books for decor…. That’s still capitalism and the rich minority plaguing us.

I’m moving and it’s for the best. I just feel so sad leaving my grandma behind. Idk how everybody does it. Everybody leaves and maybe they just do it behind closed doors but I feel like my mental breakdown is worse 😭 others seem like it’s just a minor sad thing but it feels huge for me

ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

It's not a joke.
Newspapers are set at about a grade 4 or 5 reading level, because that's all most people can read.
There are positive aspects, like information triage. Anything ya can't sum up for grade 4 readers = specialized knowledge.

Oh my god. I just looked it up. Suddenly a lot of...everything...is coming into focus. People have no reading comprehension because they can't read but think they can?!

ok one last post -- oldheads are always going to "why is the web dying.... how can we get the kids invested in the free and open web"

bro the kids can't read. that's why the web is dying. first things first

my patience has increased but I will say, it is ok to have trouble reading, it is not ok to scream at people for things you imagined they said because you can't read what they actually said

Authoritarianism can only succeed when democracy fails to deliver for working people.

Authoritarian parties can only succeed when the pro-democracy parties fail to fight for working people.

We need a new democracy and a new party system which can represent working people.

Amazon customer service has gotten worse over time. And do you guys remember when they used to refund you if your order didn’t arrive in 2 days?

I understand that resellers from thrift stores prob are helping with waste, but I wish they would do it for the goodwill bins or the last day sale of things. They always go early and grab the best items ;-; it feels ironic to ignore poor people wanting nice things

Since getting a kindle, I’ve been going down the rabbit hole. Libby sounds amazing but finding out I can connect it to the kindle is wonderful

I dislike when people joke of loving “dead people’s stuff” at thrift stores and estate sales. Although a lot of truth to the statement, the joke just feels sad on the deeper level. It can be true without being a joke imo. On the flip side, I hope the previous owners know their items are deeply loved

Your friendly semi-regular reminder that the single greatest way to help your favorite authors is to rate and review the books you've read. Goodreads, Itch, Kindle, they all give you the opportunity to rate/review and it REALLY helps us get visibility!

Idc what anybody says, I really appreciate the rise of payment plan apps in these times. Often times offering no interest. And it feels easier to me mentally to pay $15 here and $20 there than see the overall and be told to pay $XXX including the interest

I found 3 kindles $5/each at an estate today. Going to have a merry thriftmas this year in honor of the recession and tbh it’s exciting! Sure it’s used but prob better than what I would’ve gotten new (bc I’d be buying cheaper stuff)

The way I’m debating moving temporarily with my mom for mental peace but sacrificing potential hot thrifting spots where I’m currently at 💔 the struggle of decision

I went to a big book sale hosted by the library and it was amazing. Like new books all being $1 and at most $5. I got probably 22 books and 3 jigsaw puzzles for $24. I love that they aren’t greedy with this sale. They just genuinely want people to read more. I wish all libraries did this.

Ahhh yes the complex family relationship where you know they love you and genuinely mean well but their way of doing that makes you hate this city and want to live as far away as possible even though you don’t want to

I have a theory that gifted kids— only half or maybe even 1/3 were actually gifted. The rest were just praised to hopefully get kids to keep at their normal good grades and good demeanor. Unfortunately it just gave them mental health issues and pressure 💀
