Loves the 4-6-3 and the serial comma. Writer'ish person. 💙 for Orioles, REM, Dylan, Patti Smith (not necessarily in that order). Teacher of yoga. Feeder of cats. Fiendishly hopeful.
Portable waterproof tents for baseball in 1900? Domes before there were domes.

“The latest novelty is baseball under canvas. The clubs carry their own parks. … The Toronto club won’t consider the suggestion.” - The Toronto Star 10/4/1900

Breaking news from the Charlottesville Daily Progress. Weird ... I don't recall this.

Those 1896 Baltimore Orioles are sounding an awful lot like the 2025 Baltimore Orioles.

In the room, the cats eat mad spaghetti / Talking of Lawrence Ferlinghetti – Richard Fariña 1960

Oops, wrong cats. (Mine mostly talk of naps, snacks, and Purr’linghetti.)

I was looking for something else, but then I found popcorn pie in an 1887 newspaper. Thereby hangs a tale? I want this pie. I want this tale. It's suddenly all I can think about.

My dad took this photo maybe 1940'ish. I found it in his things after he died. I love it. Chicken. Farmhouse. Well pump. Bunk house. Pretty much all one needs. (A cat would be nice, I guess.)

Baseball. Cats. All the best things were also all the best things in 1889.

Every home deserves at least one cat. A carousel giraffe is entirely optional.

On August 17, 1910, John Moisant flew the first flight with a passenger across the English Channel. He actually took two passengers with him that day – his mechanic and his cat Mademoiselle Fifi. 🐱✈️

I'm loving Paul Murray's "The Bee Sting." But, apparently, Mookie loves it, too, and he's called dibs.

Was I looking in the Library of Congress archive for a 1936 photo of a cat dressed as a Valkyrie from a Wagner opera? Nope. Am I glad I found it? Definitely.

Just read a book review that began: 'There is no writer quite like [author].” Is that good or bad? Because, truthfully, there’s also no writer quite like Zuzu when she walks across my keyboard? "ghhhhhdwqqqaq" 🐾✍️

TomTom, cat du jour. And, yes, those uber-long whiskers are real ... and they're spectacular.

The NYTimes Digital Guild have ended their strike (although there's much left to be resolved). But, for now, let the crosswording begin again!
