[Long thread - Enjoy!]
The DOJ’s sudden arrest of my friend Judge Hannah Dugan is an outrage. It was meant to intimidate anyone who would question the violent invasion of our public spaces by federal forces interested not in public safety, but in striking Fear into Good Hearts.

This is fascinating -- and scary. Musk is taking the biggest power the federal government has - information - and preparing to use it as a weapon against all Americans. Are Senators going to stand for it? Send a message: STOP the nominations of RFKJr/Gabbard/Patel. Dem and GOP - take the gov BACK!

For those of you not from Wisconsin, I can't tell you how much Uecker meant to the Brewers and baseball in the state. From historic moments in Brewer baseball (AL pennant in '82; Yount's 3,000th hit) to silly jokes during spring training, he will be missed terribly. A local Milwaukee treasure.

Bob Uecker, the legendary voice of the Milwaukee Brewers who was nicknamed “Mr. Baseball,” has died at age 90. He appeared in the "Major League" film franchise and the TV sitcom "Mr. Belvedere." cnn.it/4fW0rWd

@pkrugman.bsky.social was my hero back when I was regularly blogging in the '00s. I refused to do anything short-form, saying that I was writing columns like Krugman. Without the exposure certainly. But I tried. And I might again. Thanks Paul for everything you brought to the conversation.
So long, and thanks for all the fish. Final NYT column is up. News about future plans probably tomorrow morning www.nytimes.com/2024/12/09/o...

Obviously not smart enough to get take-out.
I don't know if a healthcare CEO assassin eating at McDonalds lines up.

The obvious difference is that Trump lied about that and Biden was right. Anyone doing what Trump did -- in NY, with the classified docs, and on Jan 6 -- would have and should have been prosecuted. Hunter never would have been if not a Biden.
I've had it with being so pure while they are so dirty.
You do all realize when Joe Biden said tonight that Hunter never would have been charged & prosecuted if his last name wasn’t Biden, that that’s the exact same argument Trump made about those 34 felonies, don’t you?

Oh stop. This is what we get for playing by the old rules while Trump torches the norms to the ground.
So Biden said what he had to before the election. So he did something different (and imminently right) after.
Hunter not above the law. He was treated differently than anyone else would have been.
For all of us who’ve yelled about what a unique threat Trump is, this pardon is so deflating. So now, like Trump, Hunter Biden is above the law? So now like Trump, Hunter is a victim of a “weaponized DOJ?” And if u cheer this pardon, don’t complain when Americans no longer see Trump as uniquely bad.

Just another day playing by the new (non-)rules Trump created.
Fuck 'em.
Biden promised not to pardon Hunter. He said he respected the jury's verdict. Now he says: Fuck it, pardoned.
Trump faced opposition on some of his proposed pardons. Biden has now erased pardons as any kind of issue for the next four years. I know it made you all *feel good*, but it's stupid.
Oh, please. Like Trump was waiting to see what Biden would do before he decided to hand out pardons right and left?\

Nah.

...not to mention the thousands of pardons of Jan 6 insurrectionists that are already being printed for Trump's signiture on Jan 20th.
Hunter was the poster boy for the RightWing media campaign to smear the Biden family. His prosecutions were petty compared to the grand corruption they claimed.
We’re not accepting complaints about the Hunter Biden pardon unless you also complained about the Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, and Paul Manafort pardons.

An excellent distillation of the effect of RightWing media on lies and ignorance. I would add that, from Talk-Radio to Fox to the Big-Dog social media and podcasters - they all speak with the same GOP-generated voice and message-of-the-day. The obedience and discipline of these people is incredible.
NEW: In the latest issue of my OUR LAND newsletter, I examine the interaction between voter ignorance & media fragmentation. Spoiler: It's not good news for democracy.

I get this about paying attention to what they are up to. I have always listened to RightWing social media, talk-radio, Fox News - as much as I can stand it. There is something to be said for knowing the enemy. So I still am on TwitterX as a lurker. Not bothering to contribute - shadow-banned anyway
No

How can we talk to MAGA when they don’t believe in science, facts or proof when it’s shown.

MAGA will then call us morons, or retards, or tells us to kill ourself when we do talk to them.

Watching the panel around the table this morning tip-toe around the elephant in the room was creepy - everyone, including Mike Barnicle and Al Sharpton, seemed to be holding their breath, so as not to express too much of an opinion of this outrageous trip to Mar-a-Lago. Fear is poison.

The first time I noticed the smug punk Scarborough is when he was the face of the Junior Bush hijack of the FL vote in ‘00. I never believed the anti-Trump was in his heart - he spent too much time with the Orange Menace back in the day. Pathetic. And apparently forbidden to discuss on MSNBC
Yes, we are also paying attention to the deafening silence of the MSNBC contributors and frequent guests to this. Will be noted and not forgotten. www.meidasplus.com/p/goodbye-mo...

Is somebody -- like his shareholders, maybe? -- asking what Musk is doing spending all his time and energy at Mar-a-Lago heading a fake department instead of "running" his various companies??
