Not gonna lie: Being a newly independent journalist is rough. I don’t regret leaving the LAT, and I have the encouragement of former colleagues. But this is hard, so I’m working at the beach today.

Reading the LAT Guild newsletter on the strike authorization vote, I paused right here.

Yes, plenty of ex-LATers jumped immediately to new employers. But a lot of us, especially in opinion (cough, me too, cough), left without any job lined up because the misery was just too much to bear.
