"Mortimer, your brother is not well! We'd better call an ambulance!"
"Fuck him."

"Hi, Geoff. You're now in your 50s, no doubt with kids, a mortgage and chronic back pain. Isn't it time you got over your frequent public resentment of how all the creative freedom you enjoy is directly attributable to Portishead's music having found an audience amongst the kind of people you hate?"

A first-rate collection of Eddies, to which I would add Eddie Russ and Eddie Condon, as immortalised on the front door of one of my favourite watering holes here in Berlin.

Polite reminder that the current editor of The Times is the bigoted troglodyte Tony Gallagher, former editor of The Slum, responsible for the only Twitter block I ever received that I treated as a badge of honour.

The way 20-something me would have made a complete fool of myself over this woman.

From 1991, this is as adventurous a record as the Bomb Squad ever made, Public Enemy included. A barely controlled all-bets-are-off collision of styles released to widespread indifference at the end of sampling's Wild West era, when rap was still pluralist enough to accommodate it. Get familiar.

"Music, Money & Mayhem" is (quite literally, in places) little more than a podcast-bro version of this meme. It is the kind of thing we scousers would refer to as "jarg".

Last night's viewing, and a big favourite in our house. There aren't too many movies I'd describe as "near perfect", but this is one of them. Tremendous soundtrack too, ending on the kind of payoff only Walter Matthau could deliver.

B&W movies that are not boring:

The Great McGinty (1940)
The Lady Eve (1941)
Sullivan's Travels (1941)
Hail The Conquering Hero (1944)

Jenrick is basically this dril tweet made flesh. 50 years ago, he'd probably have been considered one of the National Front's rising stars.
