Glad to see the representative of the Quakers at Catherine Connolly’s #inauguration ripping gently into politicians.

No Quaker would ever use the expression, but basically she asked the politicians present to stop
“Smearing the BeJaysus” out of refugees seeking safety in Ireland.

A good day.

I think this technique of taking a non-story originating in the gutter press and treating it as worthy of debate is probably great remote-control clickbait, but it is yet another symptom of a failing news media landscape, undermining rather than serving democracy.
Is it ok to wear a white poppy?

Green Party leader Zack Polanski wore one alongside the traditional red one on Remembrance Sunday.

The white poppy is a mark of respect, but it opposes military power and does not directly benefit the Royal British Legion.

What do you think?

A bit behind schedule, but how voters moved in the year since the 2024 election.

Labour facing same splintering of the last govt: a significant bloc crossing floor to primary electoral opposition, with a numerically larger chunk moving to opponents on same side of spectrum, plus many 'don't knows'.

The point is to distract from government failings by targeting a vulnerable minority.

If that means the government throwing away your tax money to do so, then so be it.

Gotta look tough. Otherwise people might blaming the government for all the failures.

Plan to make migrants pay for accommodation ‘would cost State millions’, ministers told
A new system of charging migrants to stay in Ipas (International Protection Accommodation Services) centres will cost millions to implement, but will have a “low rate of return” for the State.

Ireland has a long history of copying British policies after they have failed in Britain, and then doing the shocked Pikachu face when they fail here too

I'd honestly rather not see how this one works out for us
Listening to Tánaiste Simon Harris's comments on the way into Cabinet this morning - accusing parties on the left of the 'extraordinary' move of 'trying to shut down debate' on immigration.

The biggest problem Ireland has with migration is that the state always favours segregation over integration. Thousands of decent people have spare rooms & unused top floors they could rent to asylum seekers and homeless people, with minimal adaptations. But they'd be dispersed. Can't have that!
