Mainly retired but you can find me from time to time working at the library. Best job ever. 💙📚

I love reading, walking travel and I spend a lot of time researching my family history.

You can read my family tree stories on https://shakingthebranches.com/
A really interesting and entertaining read. Nothing about it made me want to take up cycling or visit America but I do admire his courage and determination.

Just finished Home Before Dark by Eva Björg Ægisdottir. I just love Iceland and Icelandic crime fiction and Ægisdottir is one of the best. Available at your local library.

Probably not a word I’ve ever written but I seem to remember them labelled as syboes at the greengrocer. Bluesky doesn’t like that spelling!

What’s everyone reading right now? I’m enjoying this one which is a recent arrival at the library.

Still have to find out more about this particular family but can see now why they were here. The iron works actively recruited workers from Lithuania.

Then and now. Great day out this week visiting “the street” where my ancestors lived. Think we found the remains of a chimney. The houses were built 1830s and belonged to the Coltness Iron Works. #GenHour #FamilyHistory

What a party at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall last night! Jesus ‘Aguaje’ Ramos & His Buena Vista Orchestra. Was so looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. Amazing! #MusicSky

Just had a flashback. When my son was at primary school they weren’t allowed to wear outdoor shoes in class so we got him the black gutties and thought no more about it. One day we went to an event in school and these are what he was wearing! Mortified! He’d never thought to say anything.

@martindoyle.bsky.social Bought this book while visiting Ireland last week. The people and their stories will stay with me for a long time. If you want to understand the impact of The Troubles this is the place to start #BookSky

Found this old photo and would love to know the story behind it. I believe it’s my grandfather on the left. He was born in 1899 and grew up in Lanarkshire,Scotland. There are no names or dates on the pic. Anyone have an idea of what’s going on here? #genealogy #FamilyHistory

My StoryGraph for 2024 showing a lot of Icelandic crime fiction. I’ve almost run out of authors! Also enjoying some Australian noir.
