And that’s where we get our village name from! Bookham, village of the beech trees 🌳🤓
Etymology of the day: ‘book’ comes from an ancient root shared by ‘beech’, a wood that people used for engraving inscriptions. ‘Paper’ comes from ‘papyrus’, and ‘volume’ is from the Latin for a ‘roll’ of parchment.

Happy World Book Day.

Incredibly well written and thoughtful piece by an unlikely commentator…
”I resolutely believe that women have superior skills of understanding, nurture, problem-solving and diplomacy that could balance and tame the habitual assumption of the superiority of men and their decisions,” writes Sheila Hancock.

The far right wins when people lose faith in democracy. So: strengthen the Electoral Commission; limit foreign interference; enfranchise 16-year-olds; make voting automatic.

The time for action is now, writes Calix Eden.

Been a good day today. From morning to evening, European leaders standing up, all around the world, one after another, and speaking clearly against the Trump/Putin agenda.
President of Finland Alexander Stubb speaking in Kyiv today:

▪️ It’s not Russia who decides on EU membership, its the European Union who does that
▪️ It’s not Russia that decides on NATO membership,it’s the alliance itself
▪️ It’s not Russia that decides on what Ukraine has by its border, when, where&how
