“Bike lanes hurt small businesses by removing parking!”

I love this one. The Annex BIA which was initially against the installation of the bloor bike lanes was recently up in arms over the Ontario Government's attempt at removing them. 😮bikes lanes increase foot traffic. #biketo

100% this! I'm going to start calling those two-wheeled electric vehicles with throttles that don't require pedalling "e-motos" too. Hopefully we can shift the narrative => e-bikes are NOT a problem in Toronto's bike lanes, e-motos are the problem. #BikeTO #bikesky
@peopleforbikes.bsky.social looks at the problem of "e-motos" that are confused with e-bikes. There is confusion everywhere in the e-bike world; it's time to clarify and simplify the rules and get the too-big too-fast two-wheeled things out of the bike lanes.
When it comes to e-bikes, we need "clear, simple, straightforward rules that a nine-year-old can explain."
People for Bikes has recommendations for dealing with the confusion between "e-motos" and e-bikes. I have some too.

Was biking on a road with NO bike lane. A man pulled out from a parking spot and almost hit me. Opened his window and yelled at me to stay in the bike lane. 🤨#biketo

Them: What are you doing this weekend?

Me: Doing a 100-mile bike ride with some friends.

Them: Wow, you must be a great athlete and in such good shape.

Me: I am going to eat 10 cider donuts during the ride.

So bill 2012 prevents the city from removing a car lane for a bike lane. OK. What about for a multi use path or a sidewalk? The west side Parkside drive needs at least a sidewalk badly. Reducing southbound to 1 lane will slow down the traffic this speed camera is supposed to solve. #biketo #topoli

Toronto's most aggressively anti-bike lane, pro-car bar, that sells "Fuck Bike Lanes" t-shirts, seen here absolutely jammed, busiest they'll ever be, because the street's pedestrianized for a weekend street festival. How did any of these people get here if they couldn't park outside the bar??

Men shouldn't have bicycles over 50. Seriously, 50 bicycles is enough.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.

Disgraced former mayor John Tory says Yonge St bike lanes are "not working in terms of bike traffic", he "does not need to have anyone study it" because he has been there "many, many, many, many times". City's data shows thousands use these bike lanes daily. Peak hours, there is bike every 15 secs.
