I have been busy for the last few days making a number of mini artist’s books using some of my mini linocut prints. It has been great fun and was triggered by my participation in Swansea Print Workshop’s 25th anniversary Artists’ Book Project - which you can see at Oriel Q in Narberth.

Here is another artist’s book. This time a tiny one!
The images are only 5x5cm and the slip case is only 8x8x2cm. The prints are reduction linocuts on Somerset Satin using Hawthorn inks and the book structure is made from Fabriano Rosaspina.

‘Kardomah’
Two linocut prints mounted as an artist’s book.
Both are inspired by the glorious 1950’s time capsule that is the Kardomah café.

They are my contribution to Swansea Print Workshop’s 25th anniversary project - a 12m long concertina artists’ book of 25 prints on the theme of Swansea.

I quite often use only a left-handed hangito when cutting detailed pieces. I hold it like a pen. The text in the ‘word cloud’ consists of the Welsh words for steam & smoke and will be printed in a home-made ink using powdered Welsh steam coal in a base of @hawthorn_printmaker transparent ink.

For today's #PrintPromptMonday I give you a #Friends print from 2021 in which I tried what *I dub* an inverse linocut. Thank you organisers: @gemmatrickey.bsky.social @strangford.bsky.social @printsbythebay.bsky.social

I am really happy to have had all four entries accepted into this year’s Derby Print Open.
Two small lithographs and two reduction linocuts. The exhibition is on throughout June at studios across Derby as well as online.

This coming autumn I have an exhibition at Galeri Caernarfon, titled ‘Glo’ (Welsh for coal). I am working on around 25 works for this. Here are the first two prints (of six) that are intended to be joined vertically in a concertina book. They represent a section through a deep mine.

Work in progress is this week’s #printpromptmonday prompt. These three are multi-block reductions and are quite tiny. Between 3x7cm & 5x5cm

Here is my first post for #printpromptmonday. This one is for this week’s prompt of Water.

Why not join in? It’s a great way to meet other printmakers here on Bluesky. Thanks to @strangford.bsky.social

It’s #printpromptmonday and the theme is ‘water’ so here’s my linocut artwork for the BFI release ‘Western Approaches’.

A quick video of me cutting part of a design inspired by the 1950’s mosaics & patterns on the tables in the wonderful Kardomah café in Swansea. This is part of an artists’s book project at Swansea Print Workshop.

Here is another chance to see the fantastic Miners Imprint exhibition, a collection of work based on coal mining in Wales.

I was lucky enough to have two pieces selected. You can see it throughout March at Queen Street Gallery in Neath.

It’s always lovely to see a 🔴 on a print.
This 10x10cm plate litho is currently hanging on the wall of the Royal Cambrian Academy in their Open Exhibition. The exhibition runs until 1st March so you have plenty of time to catch it.

Back to basics - plain old black & white.

One of my favourite places to sit and drink coffee in Swansea is the Kardomah café. It is a gorgeous 1950’s time capsule and this print is inspired by the wall mosaics and the coffee bean patterns on the table tops.
Follow me to see how it turns out!

Here are three mini linocuts in progress. The middle one is 50x50mm and the other two are roughly 40x60mm. They both use two-block reductions and the images show the first colour on the sky blocks and the second blocks ready for their first printing.

The place and its print…

This is my recent print of Carreg Coetan Arthur in Newport, Pembrokeshire alongside the photo it was based on.

Hi and welcome to my first post here.
I am transferring my sketch of Strumble Head lighthouse onto polyester drawing film ready for tracing onto the lino. It is planned as a two block reduction print and is 15x15cm.
