I have great news!
Excited to share that I will be defending my thesis on “The Global Challenge of Plastics Pollution” on October 31, 09:00 CEST.
Plastics are more than a waste problem - they’re tied to social-ecological issues and disrupt Earth’s systems. Join Patricia as she defends her thesis revealing plastics’ links to fossil fuels, toxins, and injustice.

Another #plastics recycling facility on fire, this one hosting waste "exported" by the UK to Turkey. A terrible case of #wastecolonialism and a huge health hazard to those downwind and ultimately, all of us, as many of the pollutants will enter the food chain. www.linkedin.com/posts/sedat-...

The recent global talks in Geneva aimed at reaching a plastic pollution treaty have collapsed once more, with no deal agreed and no clear path forward.
Patricia Villarrubia-Gómez is disappointed but thinks no treaty is better than a weak treaty. Read more www.stockholmresilience.org/news--events...

US are sending letters to countries to oppose to plastics production caps. Redlines put them in direct opposition to over 100 countries, threating substantive change on how plastics are produced, the only real chance to make them safe and sustainable #PlasticsTreaty

Wonderful, and on point, threade by @bcarneyalmroth.bsky.social in relation to their last publication in relation to #plasticspollution and the #PlasticsTreaty. While there is no single bullet that will solve this crisis, some solutions will be more effective than others. See thread to learn more!
We know that we face a global crisis of #PlasticsPollution. We know that production levels are beyond what societies and the Earth system can manage or tolerate. We also know that #plastics materials and the the full plastics life cycle are complex, and that there is no one single solution.
